Build Review Home made charger?

I have a 9.6 volt 1200 mah NiMH battery and lost the charger for it. I have a cord to plug into an outlet and alligator clips to attack to the battery but will it charge the battery or destroy it?

Its a question of what will happen first:

Battery can explode.
Blow the fuse or trip the circuit breaker
Burn down the house.

Could do all at once.

BTW... I have seen a few NiCds explode from accidental improper charging... Never seen a LiPo burn without purposefully being punctured to burn it.

When NiCd explodes its like a small grenade, throwing bits of metal at high velocity and having a small fire (which can spread).

Motionrc.com has a really nice AC/DC charger for $60
Similar to the Turnigy AC6, but higher output (probably relabel of the updated version of the same charger)

The Accucel 6 is in two forms .... the common 50W one and also the Eco6 one of 80W, which I bought recently and is actually a very nice budget charger.
I just do not understand why they insisted on an XT60 power in cord ?

Two or three years ago, a club member just finished charging his Nih battery pack in our shelter. Took the model to the flight line, and heard a real loud POP!

That Nih battery blew off its top, went through the side of the model, and went completely through another model located some 15 feet away.

These Nih batteries are equipped with a pressure relief vent to prevent this from happening. They don't always work.

(Wrong setting on the charger)

The other problem with making a charger from lets say a dc wall pack of 12 volts 200ma is you have no delta peak detection so you woun't get as good a charge.
A charger for just Nmih and Nicads is quite inexpensive I have bought a couple off of Ebay : Hobbico multi charger and a field charger both where around $10.00 Now They will not do Lipos ! and that is why people are selling them cheap. I even have a like new DC peak detecting hitec multicharge here I am likely to sell soon starting at a price of like $5.99
it's just not all auto and is DC input so it may not even sell

It doesn't even take an improper setting on a fancy charger to blow a Ni-cad. I had a 450 mah cell blow apart using the 50 ma over night charger that came with the system.

So far, I have more problems with bad nicads than bad lipos.
