For sure keep the ailerons, It's what gives you proper 3-axis control, but you can reduce aileron travel so it's gentle control.

Without disrespecting your instructor, I would beg to differ! If you have a 2-channel model with lots of dihederal, he might be right BUT...
With a 3-4 channel aircraft, the PRIMARY directional...
