I swapped the lipo for a 1S-500 with a battery adapter and it flies like it should right out of the box. It also looks like it was originally designed for the larger battery.

At the time it was a kit from BudgetRC, which they are no longer in business. I think it's 3/8" thick EPP with carbon spars in two places.... if I remember correctly.

I've only flown mine once on floats... The Park 450 just didn't have the power I would like to have with floats. It is however, more powerful then stock by far. If I use the floats more, I'd upgrade...

Just cut them out, you won't be disappointed. Also use a solder gun with a pushrod element instead of a soldering tip to cut out foam, it works great!

I picked up a couple 3s1300 lips to see if it helps performance out. I must be the only one who isn't thrilled with this plane, but I love the looks. My go to plane is still my $uperCub.

Other then 1/2-flap takeoffs and full-flap landings, for me it flies like a bulky cub. I did notice while flying inverted, it wants to climb, which seems odd.

You could turn the brake on your esc so your prop stops horizontal. I think that would save some props.

Ya, I can't see spending good money on an old one just to crack it up or become brittle and unflyable. Besides I like RC better. I have quite a few 049s around the house still :)
