I haven't done any, too darn hot and windy. :mad: Soon the weather will calm down and I can do some flying though. :) I am anxious to try my 2 new orange HC RX and Satillite RX. I was able to bind them with no problem. :D I'll put them in a cheapo foamie for flight tests. ;) I now have 3 birds looking for an RX. I sold all of my 72mhz stuff so I'm down on some equipment. HOWEVER!!! :D I just bought a DX7 so I now have 20 more slots for planes. :D:);) Decisions, decisions!! Oh My! :eek: Marty Steve where are you my Boy?

Ive been trying to motivate some chit chat with the e-flite "on the front lines" planes Guess I need to get some crash footage, that usually gets some ooo's and aahhh's.
BTW: I bought 4 orange flavored Rx...so far ..so good..no issues at all! I dont use the SATS though, only in a sailplane.

Saturday night, a bit before I shut down, I was looking at the rebuilt Albatros, and noticed something I'd missed-the large spinner, and prop TE, was hard against the nose of the plane. I stuck a piece of 220 grit carburundun paper in the gap, grit toward the body, and re-established a gap. Sunday, during a period when the wind dropped below 8, with great trepidation, I gave it a toss (motor running, of course! Regardless of what the wife and son think, I ain't completely senile! Yet!)
I gave it a launch, and it actually flew. Just like out of the box. Ended up dumping it downhill in a rotor. Club runway is at the top of a hill, runs roughly N-S, the East edge of the runway starts a downhill for about 1000'. We're about 50' AGL. Wind is generally Westerly. Got caught in a rotor. After finding it in the stubble, I just thought I'd try something different. On the uphill walk, I put it back in the air, climbed to about 20'. and procceded with a liesurely walk uphill, with the plane just in front of me. I was able to walk the approximately 500' flyiing the plane, just sometimes doing a little side slipping if it got too far ahead. The wind was about 6 mph, I guess I was walking about 2 mph, so I'd estimate the plane flies about 10 mph. That was unreal! Even more unreal, I got back to the pits without tripping, or breathing especially hard, thanks at least in part to the temperature finally being under mid 90s after about 3 months. Actually, it peaked around 88. Winter weather, lately.
Oh, repairs gained me about 2 grams in weight.

Wish I had more to report. Although I have my Albatros at the ready, winds every day are 30 to 50kmh and the poor thing would be lost over the chilly roiling sea before you can say what did you expect when you visit an island in the Atlantic ocean.

I'd like to get my Alba back in the air, but found my receiver connector plug for the battery has broken. Looks like it just cracked in half. Anyone seen where these can be purchased? Or do you have to buy another membership to Horrizon hobby?:confused:

I finally got back to working on my airplanes. I have the wings finished for my Eflite SE5A night fighter.

Ahh..he flew these after he returned to England. I think it was the 56th squadron he had transfered from. I never knew he was one of the founders of the BBC, he ia a very interesting person. Also, I like your pick!! very neat colors! and don't forget the video! Why don't I just paint my D-VII black now....and we can duke it out over the Thames!:D

I have a wreaked Eflite SE5A on its way. If I can put it back into flying condition I am planning on making it this plane. Then I will have 2 night fighters.

Hey Marty I got a DX7 too. Outgrew my DX6. I have a couple Orange RXs too. They work great!! Been working 60+ hrs. a week so no flying in awhile but hoping to get time soon! Glad to see all you guys are still around and kicking. Try to work on the 14"ws triplane this weekend after work.

Steve it's good to hear from you again! :cool: I trust you aren't working yourself to death! Be sure to put some "airplane money" a side for those special projects you have in mind (you too Boys!). Early AM patrols , 57 degrees finally :cool: , 4 more flights with the PKZ SE5a , really enjoying this plane , I was so worried about its weight , but with the 518 sq inches of wing area and under cambered wings , it flys better than what I figured it would , it will slow down nicely .
And got a bit squirely on me taking off twice , and it now has pavement rash on the wingtips , and it has all held together nicely considering how hard pavement is when you end up on the nose :concern: But I got myself all back to attention , and had no more scrapes .
Glad that the weather finally cooled off a bit . :)

Excllent Watt! She looks really nice. :cool: I think the extra weight really help too. Try glueing some clear plastic on the wing tips. That should help with scuffing. Of course, if I were flying there would NEVER be and bad landings! :D :rolleyes:;) Now if I can just finish my tripe..... Marty

My son asked me if we were going to video another plane tonight. Yes but not a WWI plane. Going to video Toothless, my flying dragon from the movie. Wonder what music he will choose for it. I think he is ready to start flying my trainer.

Son flew the trainer last night. Maybe soon he will dogfight with me.

I sure hope they continue the WWI line. I'm not a big SE5a kind of guy, and hope the next one they come out with is more to my tastes.

E-flite warning
 

Just to make everyone aware. Check your E-flight motor mounts..the entire wooden framing. My SE5a came apart in flight, was able to dead stick it down with the motor hanging. Cracked the fuse, broke landing gear brackets. Every part of the motor mount framing had come unglued. No vibration, motor was running about 1/2 throttle. No cracks, no splinters..just unglued. Checked my Jenny and found the faceplate of the wooden frame motor mount was about half unglued. About 15 flights on it. My D-VII was ok at this time, but only a few flights. Planes are stored inside, not in heat nor in direct sunlight. Iam going to coat the entire wooden framing with epoxy. Probably a bad batch with weak glue at factory, but I dont like the fact its doing this! Check yours out!

On the maiden flight of my EFlite SE5a , I took off , looped right back into the pavement , thanks to too much wind and my excitement , so my firewall motor mount was checked and very secure :eek: and it bent the motor shaft and X mount , so the motor was toast . And a piece of the fuselage side up front was damaged slightly . Has been great ever since , but with each of my new planes , I do add a small amount of the Cyanoacrylate instant glue , around the motor mount just to make myself feel better , just in case . :)

Fuselage and tail fins of the Eflite SE5A night fighter are finished. Next will install RC gear.

I knew when I unloaded the car I had left it there. If you don't use it as a c of g checker maybe you can put it back together and use it to hang your coat. LOL

a little off topic, but I am watching "Red Baron" on netflix right now. It is a great movie for those of us enamored by WWI planes.

Its a great movie however there are some factual things that dont make sense, but other than that its a good movie!

I watched the flyboys as well, both are a little off, but great story and great flying scenes. Movie worth watching is "VonRichthofen and Brown" was done in 1971. Pretty cool movie!

I watched "the Flyboys" the other night also...you just can't beat the flying scenes in Red Baron, though.

I learned a lot about WWI airplanes from Flyboys. Who knew they had heated cockpits, pilot oxygen, reliable engines that never spat oil, F-16 like rates of climb, and could land and take off in a muddy shell-cratered battlefield just like a helicopter!

We'll be having morning WW1 Dawn Patrols at the NEAT Fair this year and in the evenings we'll be showing movies like those you've mentioned. Wish I had "Dawn Patrol" on DVD.
