Welcome New Members to Wattflyer - We ONLY do electric flight here!
Welcome to WattFlyer.com where we do only one thing, electric flight. Other sites run the gamut but we decided to build this site to do one thing and do it well.

The mission of this website is:
  • Commercial free - No Banner Ads - EVER!
  • Friendly Moderation
  • No unfair "warning point systems"!
  • Electric Flight Discussions ONLY
  • E-Flight Buying & Selling ONLY (FREE to post Ads!)
  • Super Fast Board - No waiting - Dedicated Hardware
  • Clean, easy to use forum and interface without unecessary clutter
  • We plan NOT to expand this into a banner advertising website
  • No scrolling through 150 forum topics unrelated to eflight
  • Backed and operated by the owners of RC Universe so you can be sure this site isn't going to disappear
The idea here is simple. I woke up one day and decided to think outside the box and do something quite different. A site to give back to modelers and give them their own platform to discuss their passion without interference and clutter of other topics they don't care about. A site that would be designed by the members on an ongoing basis by democratic process.

There are no catches here, no hidden fees or hidden plans for the future.

This platform will remain available to modelers and we will not morph this into a commercial platform. It will remain 100% free of commercial bias in all forms.

For me it is a personal challenge to develop something, keep my coding and server admin skills in tune in a real world environment and simultaneously provide something that is needed right now to regular modelers.

Enjoy and please, please, please spread the word to your modeling buddies. It is each of you that makes WattFlyer the community that it is today and in the future!

Good deal....electric flight is getting bigger and better. :)

New Site

The site looks great and I hope it will be as fantastic as RCU for the electric crowd. As this branch of the sport/hobby has grown, so has the need for a good site that is devoted totally to it.

Really....just wanted to be the third poster on a brand new site....:p

I'm In. Looks good, should be a winner.
Available for Battery/Charger forum moderator if needed.

Reformed Nitroaddict 07-19-2005 04:44 PM

I just wanted to post and say hello. Changed my SN from Nitroaddict to "Reformed Nitroaddict" since this is an electric forum, and I am now up to four E-flight planes.

Great job Marc, look forward to visiting this site!

spread the word please. Word of mouth is the most important piece of the puzzle in the success or failure of any community site. This sites mission is vastly different from the start of the others (including ezone, rcu, etc) and positioned 100% to serve only the modelers needs. It is my hope that this out of the box formula creates something tremendous to truly spur the growth in the hobby and fill a void which exists.

So tell 5 friends about it and tell them all to tell 5 more and everyone together will build something very very special in this community.

Very nice hanger. :)

Great News
I am new to electrics, working on my second at the moment. This should be a great site.

Reformed Nitroaddict 07-25-2005 01:46 PM

Welcome Graham - glad to have you here.

bob_nj 07-26-2005 06:08 PM

Good Luck.

Let's get going...

Andy m 07-26-2005 06:37 PM

Hello from the UK, just found this place today and signed up. It's good to see an electric only forum here in the US as IMO the ones that cater for everything are just too large.

I wish you every success with the forum.:)

Duster52 07-27-2005 10:25 AM

Looking good! I'm electrics only! Is it ok to post a link like this to my RCU Gallery?

Almost all of my projects are posted there.

Reformed Nitroaddict 07-27-2005 01:36 PM

Duster - Seems fine to me, after all - RCU and Wattflyer are one in the same.
Nice looking engine on the stearman also by the way.

Andy - Welcome and thanks!

Duster52 07-27-2005 01:39 PM

Thanks. That is a kit I got off the internet. Vaccuformed plastic parts glued together and painted! I liked it much better than the original!:)

Reformed Nitroaddict 07-27-2005 01:46 PM

Yes - it is very nice. My Stearman is currently retired as I bouced it into a suspended wire and sheered off the wing and front cowling. Someday I will fix it and get it airbornse again....She was a porker though.

theKM 07-27-2005 03:07 PM

Is it just me, or does the list of forums here almost exactly mirror those of electric section RCGroups.com?... I suppose you need to put up what works. Looks like you're running the same software too.

...is it backed by RCU, because thier electric section kind of blows?
Out of all the forums, RCU's the worst offender for ads.

Anyways, all that aside, here's to the new forum!

Duster52 07-27-2005 03:22 PM

You know, there are only so many different categories. You would have to duplicate. Yes, it's RCU, but, they promise NO Banners, and ads.

I like the heck out of RCU electric forum.:)

Reformed Nitroaddict 07-27-2005 03:29 PM

theKM - Welcome to Wattflyer!

There will always be similar forums in all good electric rc sites. This VB code is slightly better than the one at RCGroups but very similar. Yes - this site has a connection with RCU but only in the people that run it. PlaneInsane and RCAdmin from RCU have started this site as a relaxed way to talk about electric RC in a more home like environment. There will never be any ads, never be any banners. Please invite more people over here so that they may also help get this site up and running.

Duster - thanks for all the positive comments.

theKM 07-27-2005 03:53 PM

When playing in open source software, one is always asked about duplication of effort... "why another forum, when you can just help build the others build even better communities?" ...which is valid in a way.

...I'm only here because I want to flog plans! :p :) :D

Reformed Nitroaddict 07-27-2005 03:55 PM

Ha! KM - That thing is pretty cool!

Jason T 07-28-2005 12:54 AM

Very cool model. What is the power setup?

Power train: 640mah 2S Kokam Lipo's, CC-phoenix10, and I'm testing out a 19g CustomCDR 20mm single stator. Originally powered by (and actually designed around) a LensRC 17t. Both are fantastic motors. The new CustomCDR has a tad more gumption and can handle 3S for longer duration without overheating. Prop is a 3 blade VarioProp with 6.5" diameter blades.

I like to mess around with my camera and my plane, so here's pics of the latest setup if you're curious...

tailskid 08-02-2005 01:54 AM

Greg, (www.gregcovey.com/rc.htm) is quite a nice site.....TONS of good info! And congrats, that hangar looks too good to be true!

Bruno Stachel 08-02-2005 03:27 AM

Thanks Marc. It's going to be fun to watch this one grow. I'm becomming more and more interested in electric flight. You started this site one at the right time for me.

Tom Korn 08-08-2005 05:19 PM

I like it here! Thanks guys. It would be so cool if the petty snipping common to other sites didn't show up here. Hey, we're all in this together, let's kick back, learn something and maybe laugh at ourselves every now and then.

Tom Korn 08-09-2005 06:40 PM

Darn it Mike, I know you've been to SEFF, and I still didn't get a chance to meet you. (I've been to all 4, and plan on being at every one as long as I can keep breathing) I'm Tom Korn, by the way, I don't know why I signed in as akorn. Brain fade, I guess.
