Quick Indoor Color Change
 

I wonder why these foamy indoor plane makers mass produce clones all the same color. It is like early Ford. You can have any color you want as long as it is black, Ever notice all the WWI German Fokkers are red or red&white. Must be something to do with the Red Baron. Or is it the thought that like in cars, red sells? Why does a favorite plane like a Cub only come in yellow. How about at least a couple runs of different colors. Everyone shows up for indoor with a yellow cub.

Well here is my answer for a snowy day project and plenty snow still going on in the N East. Color the plane using water base paint or some Magic marker color pens and some tape. Makes a nice quick project.

As far as the Cubs usually coming out in yellow, that's because, like the Ford Model T, that pretty much was what they were painted, a "Cub Yellow" with a black lightning bolt. In fact, I remember some years ago, someone in maybe Model Builder, did some research, and found out that one of the companies selling dope to modelers was also the company that provided the original Cub Yellow to Piper. In fact, there were actually a couple different shades, one a bit more orange than the other. It had something to do with the production date.
As far as the "Fokker Red!", I think that is just pretty much a lack of imagination on the manufacturers' parts. In WW-1, many German pilots got very creative with their paint schemes, and not just with the various lozenge patterns. One of the more interesting German plane color schemes, f you want to call it that, was a trial where several Eindeckers were covered with a transparent covering. One of the Squadron pubs I have on the plane shows one behind a normally painted E-III.

The orignal 'Stealth' aircraft. :D I read an article about this, I don't remember where, but the covering was expensive and yellowed in the sun very quickly so the project was abandoned. At altitude the plane was very difficult to see.

Beautiful plane you've made her into! I agree, too many planes on the market that all look the same.

I have a very cool conversion of a BUSA Fokker D7 have many pics and custom made cad designed motor mount and aluminum battery trays. Only problem Imdont know how to upload on the site. Any help would be great.......

Go advanced (under the quick reply) and there's an upload manager for the pictures.

Picture size is limited... This is the #1 cause of upload fail. Load the picture in your favorite graphics editor and reduce size 50% at a time until it works. (save as a new file name to not overwrite the original)

Another option is to load the pictures to imgur.com or another sharing service and then link the picture from there.

Building season is still here so my friend Neons put me on to this build and its time. Link worked fine, just pasted into my browser and there they were. Very nice work. I really like what you did with the I beam motor mount and hanging the batteries on same. Is there an anchor pin in there to secure them?

This thread is for WWI aircraft and related issues. Not for pig shirt ads and problems with linkages on later model aircraft. Wake up moderaters! I don't want to see this stuff on the threads.

We're B A C K :-) just starting to draw up plans for a 30% Eindecker…..should be a fun build.

Here's where we're at so far today...taking it slow, so not a lot of progress...drawing up the plans took a bit, started building last week.
wingspan 120" wing area 2520 sq. in. full flying tail feathers, and it's going to use wing warping instead of ailerons. ....next project is to make the pillar, and LG.

Just finished my Balsa USA kit of a Fokker DR.1 triplane in 1/6 scale. It is powered by a 4S setup on a Hacker motor. Thought I would share a couple of pics:

A very nice neat build but like all 'modern' Triplanes that nose is too long.
The full size Oberusel U II rotary used in the Triplane was a heavy engine.
With a true scale nose it is hard to to get enough weight forward, or build the tail end light enough, without a lot of lead up front.;)
Do let us know how it flies.. .
