And while we're nitpicking...no one told the animators that the pistons in a rotary are supposed to...wait for it...rotate.

Well thought id post my finally fully completed Aerodrome RC Fokker DVII with the pilot, guns winscreen, repaired wingtip landing gear wood fairings etc. The color scheme is of warner junck of jasta 8 :D it was flown around 10 times, its a great flying plane!!:D

Eflite SE5A home defence night fighter is almost done. Did a test fly and it did not need any trim. Hand launched at just over half throtle and it climbed like a home sick angel. Will have video next week after I add the pilot.

Thats a very nice change that you have done to the SE5 , really different , and yes the winds have been too much , the past couple of days here also .

I glued the paper on this plane with 3M Supper 77 and I think it has added a lot of strenght to the foam. On the Nieuport 17 I used sticker paper on the fuselage and painted the wing. The wing on it was damaged in shippment and I have CF reinforceing it. I think I will now glue paper on the wing hoping it will make the wings as stiff as the ones on the SE5A. I do not think the sticker paper adds as much strenght as the glued on paper.

Had never used any , did you spray around the edges and then apply the paper , or spray the entire wing and apply ?

What weight paper do you use , and I guess that once the paper touches , ITS GLUED , and there is no moving it afterwards ?

This method sure opens some major changes like what you have done , that would have been some major masking and whatnot to have painted the plane like that . And the german camo fabric would be possible to print on paper and apply also , maybe .
The EFlite Fokker DVII could really be changed .

I like it...Really a fine job. And your not going to see that in everyones hanger, thats for sure. So the 3M dosnt bother the foam at all I take it. Pilot looks familiar:D!!

I mixed elemers glue and water to get a workable base and applied this paper, it gives enough time to move it, but...it has to dry. I think it was tacked in about 30 mins.

I spray the entire area where I want to glue the paper. I lay the paper lightly on and can still lift it if I need to. Once in place press the paper down and done. Where the glue gets on the plane where not needed I just wait. It will finally stop being sticky and makes the area not shinny.

I made german camo for my Albatros but printed with an inkjet. It got so water spotted it no longer looked good so I back dated the plane and painted the wings.

I use bright white 20 lb paper.

I was printing the paper with no overlap. Had to cut the edges very straight and then work to get to match. Now I print with 1cm over lap. Use stick glue to glue the paper together before putting on plane.

I now have 2 planes using printed paper on the fuselage. Most of my planes have stickers I made and glued on. The only part of my SE5A not covered with paper is the under side and motor.

3M does not bother foam and sticks forever once the paper is pressed down.

I keep finding better ways to make the pilots. This time I vacuum formed several. I clamped both halves together. Filled with expanding foam(needed it else where so did not waste the rest of the can). After the foam set I split the haves apart then trimmed to fit together better and glued back together with Gorille glue. The differance from your pilot, mine is not hexed, at least I hope not. LOL

Iam holding the last pilot for a DR-1 e-flite series that I hope they are making....I can already probably say, it would be red. So, gonna have to come up with a different sceme. [popcorn]

Axle up so plane is easy to pickup.

3M's 777 will eat foam if you apply it too heavy. For a foamie just a light dusting should do you well.

Degreen60 and anyone else using an ink jet to print things like decals.
Give the finished product a couple of light coats of clear paint. Will prevent any water damage.

The nightfighters were painted those colors and pattern so the ground gunners and observers could easliy identify the planes flying over the country side. So, they did not mistake them for enemy planes. Supposedly, all other fighters were "grounded" for night flights unless being attacked. I was thinking maybe using big letters under the wings saying...."us" "them".:D

I tested the 3m77 spray glue on some scrape foam, G-girl is correct, when I shot it thick, it did eat just alittle on the foam. This glue is so tacky, it dosnt need much anyway! I stuck different thickness paper on the foam, and it stuck very well!! ALL good ideas Don!! I just shot some clearcoat (light spray) on the paper/foam..got it outside in the rain, we'll see what happens.[popcorn]

I wonder if the night fighters were painted the checked underside too. I made mine linen color.

There is several threads about using 3M 77 and paper to make foam planes. Some think it is the propellent not the glue that melts the foam. I spray from about 3 to 4 feet away from the foam and haven't melted any foam yet.

When I printed with an inkjet I over sprayed with clearcoat but still got water spots. I like my laser printer much better.

I have read that the patterns used were visable...what ever that means?

My test on the clearcoat worked....I used rust-oleum painters touch, crystal clear. No water marks. I had also applied this on my D-VII a very light coat, you can see the water sitting on the plane. I had flown her in a light mist, and the grass was wet. Its been on the plane for over a week now..no issues.

Here is a video of my Sopwith Tripe "Peggy" on dawn patrol. The other videos were taken at dusk. The wind was blowing so the low slow fly bys are not as smooth as the other planes. This plane flys so well that when the wind hit I just added power and flew on.

YES , thats the best video yet , the sky is blue , the trees colors can be seen , the hay has been cut , and it looks like a lawn , and you started with the plane on the ground so all could clearly see what you are flying , this video is GREAT .
It does look like Peggy can fly slow like you said she would .

Every once in a while I loose site of my planes when they fly below the tree line. I was flying one evening and had the plane high in the sun light went to land and the plane disappears. I give it up to find it. Next try at landing was fly it at me just above tree line site. Then when close so I could see it, dive down then level for touch down and flip.

Son enjoys making the video. I am glad everyone likes them. He hunts up the music on line. I am going to miss him when the Pubic Health Service sends him to AZ. He is waiting now to be commissioned.

Nice flying too. The way your tripe sometimes skids through turns like a Corolla on ice with bald tires reminds me of my Jenny ;-)

I was trying to fly slow for the camera and a few times gusts of wind caught the plane. Wife told me I need to loop the plane. Guess I could fly a little higher and do some loops.

Naw, good the way it is. Richthofen himself said aerobatics don't belong in combat, and are only to "impress the ladies." :)
