The Breguet 14 is finished. It is trimmed, bombed up, and ready for its first bombing raid. Those Hun planes are no longer safe inside thier hangers. You can send me the pieces of the E-flite Fokker DVII that are left. LOL
|
you better check your six D! There's a lot of Huns in the Sun looking for a fat juicy bomber!:D;) Marty

DEGREEN: Nice job buddy..she looks great. Get some video of your first run![popcorn]

Well the WWI bug has bitten again. I flew my old Polk's Dr1 today. Haven't had her up in a few years so I'd forgotten what fun she is. Still haven't covered the fuselage! My buddies are coming down to Sunday to fly with me in my secret spot and one is is lending me a small covering iron so maybe I'll get her done.
Last night I ordered the 1/4 scale Fokker E. V / D VIII plans by David Johnson from Air Age/Model Airplane News. Some of you will remember it from the March 2005 issue. Looking forward to the build. Mike |
Sig d-vii
FYI: Just thought I would share something I did to keep my Sig D-VII flying...I really do Like this plane, even though its HANS flying. My firewall wore out in time, got really weak and I like the factory motor, so I used foam in a can..type used for plugging up holes around pipes and sort. With the motor mount about to fall out, I sprayed the foam inside the cowling area, put the best right and down angle I could and let it expand clean around the motor and out the front. let it dry and shaved off the excess. I drilled small holes along side the motor hoping to get some air for cooling. Anywho...it really bound the motor in the cowling area nice and secure, flew two batteries, motor was fine. The foam once expanded did not press out the fuse sides at all. Anyway. It seemed to work.
Shes running from Spads, SE5's and Nieuports. |
A little gorilla glue and water can be used the same way.
|
Yea, I have that..but darn, this stuff is so damn fast and easy to shoot inside the area, Plus it formed around the motor nice. Shes not going to come loose now...LOL.....of course, when it comes time to replace that old 180 series motor..will be some serious Dremel work..!!:D

9am and the temp is already 87F, humitity 70%, no wind, flying area nice and shaddy so I took the Breguet for a flight. It is a nice flyer now that I have all the trim bugs ironed out. When banked it stays banked until leveled by the pilot. When set into level straight flight it is hands off flyer if no wind. Landing are always knee shanking time for me but it just floats in. After landing the pilot told me next time I fly him on a morning like this they are going to shoot at me on the fly bys. LOL All I need now is soap, already wet like I been in shower.
|
Right now, 93 with 45% humidity, heat index 100. Prediction for tomorro, at least 96, index to 109. Almost starting to make me believe in Global Warming.
|
You know its hot when you can thermal the GWS Tiger Moth!

Not sure if alot of you have seen this on youtube. I think there are 4 parts to it. For a human narrated ..animated/simulation of WW1 dogfights, some pretty interesting history and explainations of types of manuevers and good descriptions of the planes and aces.

Maidened my E-flite SE5 today, built it exactly the same as my other one, but for some reason she wants to turn left. Slow or fast power settings make no difference. Alignment is as about as straight as I can make it. Rigging is true, no warping, fin is square. Offset on the motor appears to be the same as my other one. She flies very well, but I'am putting in several clicks of right trim to keep the left wing up. Any ideas?

Also check the balance laterally to see if one side is heavier than the other.
**Neons** Bob |
I will do both...waiting for wind to die down.
|
Have you checked to make sure you wings are not out of square? Might check that too, if you have not yet. If one is lower or higher it will cause it to turn.
|
That is a really great video of a EFlite SE5a flying , landing , take offs , nice .
:D |
Found this link in another forum. Interesting models here and they mailorder too. Maybe something of interest to some.
Click_Here One subscriber said it was EPP foam which is rougher but more impact resistant. I like the molded pilots also. **Neons** Bob |

Well I started a project today. In the works is a 36" ws Sopwith Pup. All foam construction and trying to make it a simple full fuse build. As well as scale as my skills can do. I've been away from building for a little while so the fingers may need some lubing. I'll post some pics as I can. Stay tuned for updates.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I checked and rechecked everything I could, this bad girl still wants to turn left for the barndoors and found myself triming down as well. Climbed to 3 mistakes high and did the motor off test, trimmed for straight flight, wasn't as bad. Well, I feel stupid now. I re-looked at my Headsup motor mount (which I love) and found that all the down and right offset was gone when I mounted it to the firewall. I do not use the plastic tube that came from factory. Anywho, I placed some washers behind screws in the firewall and got the offset back in place...You don't want to get in my sights now! Sometimes ya just gotta hang around in the hanger and ask questions, and in my case....DUH!!!!!
Thanks!! |

Great that it's all sorted out, and another good lesson for all of us.

Just another SE5a dawn patrol. Gotta say, this plane looks good against the sky! :D

awesome! does e flite make the albatros?
|
THANKS!!
Not in the 250 series. I don't think they have done one yet. The round fuse is very hard to design in this series and be flyable. They do however, have a great D-VII. |

Nice video
You captured the feeling and the joy with your SE5a video TM4197 :) I had two flights like that EARLY this AM , beat the heat ;) |
WW1 Foamie Airplane Models
I have been purchasing some of the WW1 kits over the last 8 months, but I find I am more interested in bigger fliers. Once the heat wave finally lets loose of this area, I hope to use some FFF and Readi-Board to finish up a Bristol M1c sport scale version I am scratch building. Anyone else doing foam builds in the 40-50 inch wing span range?
|
I sure hope that you post your build progress and video flights of them please . :)
Maybe it will inspire others to build in the larger size :D |
I'm about ready to start repairs on my FlyZone Albatross. Couple weeks ago a big bully of a free lance ERC plane flew right through me. Reduced the plane to about 5 major components. Going to have to make up another V strut from Styrene, I lost one of the originals, the little LiPo battery, and a few small foam bits. Hope when I finish it, I don't add more than a gram or two.
Its been one of the easiest flying of my micros. My Park Zone P-51 and Mosquito can fly in 10 mph winds or maybe a little bit higher, but fly faster and are quicker responding. Almost need exponential on the controls, even on low rate. The Albatros is maybe 6 to 8 max. Also, it flies somewhat slower, and doesn't like to loop or roll. But it just looks so cool, almost seeming to fly at a more prototypical airspeed. |
Another fine early morning for patrols , at the crack of dawn :)
For some reason , niether my Sopwith Pup or the Fokker DVII ever encounter the enemy while on patrol :D My Hobbyzone UM Champ is also a really slow flyer , nice relaxed flyer . I sure hope the new Flyzone DR-1 will fly as slowly as the Champ , boy would that be perfect :) |
50+
I have some spare parts. Send me a message, I'll see what you need and what I have.:D |
Hey TM4197, I sent you a PM thanking you for the offer, but I pretty much have it back together already. Thanks for the offer, though. Bit of glue, bit of light weight filler, almost finished.
|
Great! Happy flying!
|
ANYBODY know where a video or more than one video , of any of EFlites WW1 250 size slow flyers that has been upgraded too 4 channel with ailerons ? Sure would like to see them flying with ailerons , and see if its worth the trouble of doing . ?
:) |
There's video for all the Eflite models on the Eflite web site.
Here's the SE5a page. Sorry, I missed that you wanted video of the ones with the aileron mods. -- ggunners |
