There is nothing like having a flying Buddy both close and far, not to mention our Brotherhood of WWI aviation enthusiasts here at WATTFLYER WWI ERA, of which I am a humble member! :) Do we have the best WWI flyers/builders? Boy I guess!!! :D:D BTW Chris the sunglasses don't help! You're still ugly!:D Martin

I will admit, I am envious.

But then the flying never hurts the plane, its the landing. Except the time the wings broke when in flight on my trainer. |

Speak to me
Hey Murph. Would you be so kind as to tell us about the tripehound (how she flys, equipment, etc)? :D Me thinks it might be a good (and quick) build. :) Think we could impose upon HillBilly to get some plans/instructions? How about it HillBilly? :D:D Are you game? The tripehound sure blows my tail up! :) Then again, I'm a sucker for airplanes with 3 wings! Martin

I have yet to fly the tripe....the wind has been blowing 24 hours a day for weeks here....I am eyeing a Kite that looks like a DR1 so that I can fly something at least!!:Q The tripe has a towerpro motor and 18amp esc(I think)...little micro servos...I will put a Hitec electron-6 reciever in her, and a 1320mah 3s Thunderpower battery.:tc: Controls are ailerons, elevator and throttle...Rudder can be added really easy if needed!! I am sure Hillbilly will share the plans for his tripes when he gets a chance. He is a great guy. PS...Give me a call when you get a chance. |

Guys!! Go to www.nitroplanes.com and check out their 55" .90 sized DR1s!! Martin!!! One is black with yellow checkers just like you wanted!!! The other one is red of course!! They are $179.95 each and the rudder size looks close to scale. Steve

Dang....If I hadn't just moved....
I even have a 90 size Saito 4-stroke sitting here that would be perfect for that DR1. |
Murph if it really only weighs 6.6lbs. it really shouldn't take a .90 to fly it should it? I wonder if they are recommending that for weight in the short nose? Boy wouldn't that make a KILLER electric conversion? Steve

With a wing loading of 18 oz./sq.ft., it's going to fly more like an Me109 than a DR 1. A tripe of that size would fly a lot more scale at 11 to 13 oz/sq.ft. The Tiger Moth I'm converting is 51", and should be right at 13 oz. , about as high as I'd like to go for this size model to look good in flight.
Brad. |
Your right about the wing loading but I'm sure it can be lightened up if done with some thought. I figured that a .60 would probably fly it. Sure is cool!! Steve

Here is a free ebook "Lost Eagles" WWI fighter prototypes. Last page is a card model you can print and make.
