I'm confused. How come they're not all red from head to tail? Ha!

Nice video. Thanks for posting.

Heads up!

Movie tonight at 10:15 PM EST on TCM...

Flight Commander (aka 'The Dawn Patrol')....(1930)
.....A hotshot World War I flyer almost cracks under the pressure of sending his men on perilous missions.....

Some interesting notes from
Wikipedia about this film.....

Aircraft

Howard Hawks assembled a variety of planes in a film squadron to shoot the flying scenes for The Dawn Patrol. Hawks used rebuilt Nieuport 28s as the primary airplane for the British squadron, and Travel Air 4000s (reconfigured for films and popularly known as "Wichita Fokkers") for German fighters, but other aircraft in his small fleet included Standard J-1s for shots of entire squadrons, some of which were blown up in explosions, and WatermanBoeing C biplanes for German aircraft destroyed in crashes. The scene in which Scott takes off with Courtney clinging to the wing switches to a shot of a Travel Air 4U Speedwing fitted with a round cowl over its Comet engine to resemble the Nieuports. Stunt pilots included Leo Nomis, Rupert Symes Macalister, Frank Tomick, and Roy Wilson. Several Thomas-Morse S-4 aircraft were used in the 1930 film. The S-4 was an American built fighter plane that did not see combat in World War I. Plentiful in 1930, the S-4s were becoming rare by the time the 1938 film was produced, hence the re-use of aircraft sequences from the original film.

I still have a couple of WWI planes I have not made a video of the flying. I am ready to start a rebuild of another crashed Eflite SE5A and I need to finish rebuilding my scratch built Loening M8.

Nice. Really like the sense of humour at the end.

HK SPAD

My Spad came in this weekend from HK. Must have made the fastboat, it only took one week. I will be opening it Tues for a peek and share the first impression via a video.[popcorn]

Here is a E-flite SE5a I had to rebuild right out of the box. The fuse was the second in a row that had a twisted rear fuse. I cut the bottom of the fuse off and steamed the aft end of the fuse for about 10 mins. Put braces inside to push it the other way, then glued the bottom back on. The Horizonal Stab had to be shimmed a little to get her flat and in-line with the main wing. Flys hands off...the way it should have out of the box!!!!!

Now print the kicking mule, some stars for the wings and fuselage. Paint the wings yellow and you will have a differant looking SE5A.

Well, I have three of them now ....not a bad Idea~~ BTW: Nice job on the Bristol....it was bear to fly new, looked alot more stable after your rebuild. What motor did you slip in there?

I use a AX-2306N with a 7 or 8 inch prop in all my 250 planes. It will fly most of them at half throtle or under. I also added a lot of weight under the cowl to make it easier to fly. I get the motors from HK for less than $7. In the video my son put the 2 landings(crashes) in it. The first one I flew too low and out of my site over the hill. Son was where he could see to video it. I just let go of the controls and cut power. The second crash I saw I was flying into son and ditched the plane in front of him. You hear him laugh.

Taube build

Hello all, I just beginning the build of a Balsa USA Taube 90 "Dove" . It is a WWI era plan and this is the Giant scale version. Man there is a lot of balsa pieces. This will be my very first Balsa Kit and it looks pretty challenging. I may need some advice in the near future if I run into any problems and hope I can count on fellow Wattflyers.
Should I post a Build log here or start a new thread? Thanks

Edit I know it's a Taube I don't know why a spelled it wrong.

TM4197 10-15-2011 03:22 AM
