This one looks a lot more like a Nieuport but it has no red on it.

Here is something I found "The success of the Nieuport series of fighters led the German Idflieg in 1916 to seek proposals from various German aircraft manufacturers for the development of a comparable sesquiplane fighter for the German air corps. The Siemens-Schuckert Werke (SSW), a German electrical and aeronautics concern, submitted a prototype known as the SSW D.I, which was a direct copy of the Nieuport 11." Make a D.I and you only have to paint and add the crosses. The red picture is a D.III, the other picture is a D.I

I haven't gotten around to reading all the books I have,but it seems there was alot of licensing of designs sold between firms on both sides defore and during the war. The Fokker Eindecker was a licensed Morane-Saulnier. Even Springfield armory had to pay royalties to Mauser for every M1903 rifle they made.

I think there was a lot of copying of airplanes without licensing. As fast as airplanes were changing a lot of copies were obsolete by the time they reached the front. I think this was the case with the Siemens being a copy of the Nieuport. Also the Fokker Dr1 being a copy of the Sopwith Triplane. There were better airplanes available than either of these copies when they reached the front. I do not know if the Nieuport was withdrawn from service before the Siemens reached the front but I do know the Sopwith tripe was withdrawn before the Fokker Dr1 reached the front.

Definitely. More copyright infringement during wartime. I still think it is amazing that many manufacturers uphold legal obligations across battle lines and it isn't considered treason (or aiding and abbetting).

Wow!! I really opened a can of worms with the Siemens comment!! I just thought that it would be something that you don't see at the field all the time. I found and bought a JR Models Morane Saulnier N on RCGROUPS. It arrived this morning. I searched the net but found nothing on this model. It is made in the Czech Republic. It is a foam model with 40 inch wing span.

That is too cool! I can't wait for a build thread on that one. Neat looking plane, and I really like the size.

Was that a one of or was that one of those hobby shop sites that might have more?

I have emailed the person I bought the plane from to see where he got the plane and if he knows if there are more for sale. This is going to be an interesting build. The only instructions are exploded views with Czech writting. I will start a build thread and take lots of pictures starting with what came in the box.

The person I bought it from answered my email. He picked it up at a swap meet. He thought maybe Hobby Lobby sold them years ago.

It is 3 channel. I may have solved the hungry tree problem. Last tree that "eat" a plane still has the aileron servo with control rods and horns. Maybe they just needed something to chew on. LOL

Hi Guys,.... dont know if I'm in the right place here..(1st Post on your fabulous forum).. but I finally flew my GP D7 the last two mornings... have been waiting for the ground to harden up from the wet season here, after reading a fair bit about nose overs with this plane.... I shouldn't have worried it flew and landed like it was on rails.... had some fun with 5 Kite Hawks that came to have a look too.. they were very interested.. may have been hungry.. they didn't stand a chance against Manfred Von Vinkelflaffen.
