Maden'd My SE5a
1 Attachment(s)
Yeah haw...we got the SE5 a maiden flight. Breezy once over the trees and ailerons were very ,very responsive...will have to adjust those down a bit.In the far south, I think I could almost see one of those Tripes! The little plane is light but handles a little breeze. The Rim Fire Motor had plenty of power. First flight was about 15min then we tried a landing. Grass is already reay for a cut, I nosed over in a pot hole in the grass..no harm done,Just a small nick in the Prides' armour...LoL...
|
sure looks super. how many transmitters does it take per flight? dick

Funny you should ask..but through the last 2 yrs our club went to a dedicated frequency for each member. I ended up buying a couple of new radio's because it wasn't too cost effective to have the crystals in the radio's changed and retuned to the reciever's, then when I did get my JR changed, darn thing was gone for 2 months, sooo..I ended up with servo's ,I couldn't use, reciever's etc. This has cost me a lot of cash to comply in our club.Buying extra reciever's, servo's and radios ..trying to comply with the rules set at our field so some dumb s....! can't take the time to check the frequency board when he turns a radio on in the pits....Sorry for the venting...But to keep flying some planes and not have to change( I started flying older airtronics, their format changed so that made the older 102 servo's uncompatable. Then we get the difference between positive shift and negitive shift. So not wanting to discard perfectly good equipment, I started a small collection. One radio does a plane kinda thing, and I brought a small hanger with me the day i maiden'd the SE5.I maiden'd 3 new aircraft that day..all sucessfully.
The other thing is, when I get the chance to fly, I like to make a day of it because the field is 45min away, so 45 to the field, 20min to pack so like I've already got 2hrs tied up just going to the field. If you get there and have a small problem, your done flying for the day...then you get wind, rain and forget something , I've gone home cursing myself more than once because I needed some little thing...I think I had 9 planes packed in the back of the truck that day, but it was a great day of flying, sunny ,warm and good company up on the hill.I wasn't leaving till I had a good flying fix....!!! Don |
How is everybody? Still out there flying? Steve.

I wish!
Steve, this is the third weekend in a row with no flying due to high winds! I'm starting to get antsy! Anyway, I decided to try something new to build. :) I sure got bit by the F 15 when I saw the thread on the park jet website. www.parkjets.com/f15-eagle.html I have all of the parts cut out and the build about 2/3 thirds done. Should fly very good. All foam (6mm Depron). Yeah, yeah I know it's not WWI but I have a certain plane (DRI) in mind to build/assemble next. That is if TH ever decides to ship it! :{ Release date end of June I'm told. I now have 4 birds ready for weekend flying. I will post pics of the GP DRI build when I get it. The first thing after I get the kit is the rudder is going on a diet! :) Martin

Quiet evening here, I had the Albatros, Triplane, and Camel in the air. Trouble here is not the wind but little black bugs. If you stand still they collect on your face. Lots of fun trying to fly and shoo the bugs away at the sametime. Loening M-8 is almost ready maiden.

how about a foto of the M-8 ? also what plans? would like to build another one. mine didn't survive Katrina. dick

http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19165 I used plans in 1970 MAN. I scanned them into computer, used graphics program to enlarge to size I wanted then page printed them. I taped the pages togerher. Cut out side view and used that to cut foam to shape. |
interesting bird Degreen60...dont think I've seen that one before. It would make a great stick that's somewhat scale for general flying..somethig different than all those "Das Ugly" versions.might just have to build one..thanks for posting the pic
|
by the way Ace, if it isn't raining and I don't have to work, I'll be flying something...lol
flying season = not much pc time..unless the batteries are chargin'..going racing this eve with those GWS warbirds at our club....I race the Corsair..this year's version is the crimson super Corsair from the Reno Racers in LA.I've been trying to stir up some interest in a hurry up ad wait race with the GWS Tiger moths. It seems we all have at least one...lol..Don |

I fnished the M8 today. Ready for its first flight. Now were are those obsolete Fokker triplanes?
|
Uh, would you believe that the weather is bad here and all patrols have been cancelled? No, didn't think so!! Ha ha!! Steve.
|
Took it up for its first flight, after clipping the top of the hay I got it up. Manage to fly for a little while looking for those triplanes. Finally got too close to trees, this being my first flight with ailerons I tried to turn too hard with them and went into tailspin too close to ground. Saved by tall hay, only broken motor mount. Weather not a problem here, only little black bugs that want to land on face. Longer I stand in one spot to fly thicker they get.

Gp Dri
Oh Baby! It's here! :D :D My eyes are watering. Must be the RED paint scheme! It's gotta go! Martin

OFF works in Texas so I guess it would work in Indiana eh!! We have those stupid little bugs here too!! When I fly my 400 size heli I usually end up cleaning a bunch of 'em off my main rotor. I knew that heli would come in handy for something!! Steve.

The "OFF" works, I got in 3 great flights tonight. I know why the bugs don't like the "OFF", my hands are now sticking to everything.

Glad you let me know about off melding things. I hand launch my planes. I checked and no hand prints melded into them yet. |
Scaleflyer... Where's that red Dr1 arf??? Still waiting for mine. Backordered forever. kepps getting pushed back. Curious to see what you do to it!!!!
|
Gp Dri
Murph.. there is no way under God's blue heaven I am going into the war choked skys over South Jersey in a RED DRI!!! I haven't decided on a color scheme yet but you can bet it's not all red!! Pay attention Steve! Was thinking about Voss's color scheme or something completely different (not modeled often/at all). Suggestions Guys? The DRI is going to be my summer build after I finish my F 15. I will keep you Boys posted. Marty

Red Dr1
Hey Marty... It's a shame all the Dr1's seem to come in red. I just recieved a couple of airbrushes in the mail. Thought I might try changing the color scheme on the GP Dr1.......If it ever arrives.... Darn backorder. LHS said it was shipped, but it wasn't....Twice!!   I don't Know much about airbrushing (or any kind of painting) and Likewise Don't know much about Dr1 color schemes. However I do know I want a different plane. So I will fumble through it. ANY IDEAS FOR SUCCESS????
Also suggestions on color schemes... 3-views etc... or maybe it'll end up pink and red lozenge for WW1 ACE.::o :blah:    :Q :Q Ha Ha ........ Chris |
HI guys. If you go to a paper airplane site at fiddlersgreen.net, they can help. They have all the "circus" color schemes. It may not be exact scale but they are cool. When I looked a few years ago it seemed as if they had 10 DR1's. Have fun, Bill.
|
Yeah pink and red!!! Hey Marty, how 'bout the Waldo Pepper scheme? Steve.
|
DRI scheme
Yeah, yeah that's the ticket Steve! Waldo Pepper it is! Marty
|
That'll be too cool!!! Steve.
|
So........ Talked to LHS today and my gp Dr1 has now been NOT SENT 3 times!!!!   They keep saying it's shipped but it never comes.
I could have built 3 kits in the time I have waited!! |
WELL gents, The weathers been better so I've been on patrol.I do believe I saw a pink tri plane on the horizon...lol...We've had our share of bugs here too.I knew they were thick when I stopped for gas and the attendant had a full bug jacket on...in town!hot weather is coming and that should burn the little buggers off and make things a little more humaine at the field.By the way, bugs up here in Canada drink Deet for breakfast, rape & pillage the humming birds, and fly in squadrons so large you'd think rain was coming from the dark clouds. My first flight on the hill is usually with my 60 OS ultra stick,to fog the airstrip.Works for me:blah:
|
Oh yeah!! Well the mosquitoes are so big here in Texas that I saw one carry off a full grown Great Dane today!!! And that was NOT my pink triplane you saw. Mines in the shop getting Daisies painted on it for camoflage!! Haha!! Steve.

I could have built 3 kits in the time I have waited!! Anyhow, I've yet to see anyone else with one. There MUST be someone else out there who's bagged one! It's a great flyer, a bit twitchier (and smaller) than the other two. It's both shorter and has a shorter span. It'll manuever like crazy, though, and uses the same battery and motor. I got a bit silly and put in digital Futaba micro servos in it. Probably overkill but the superior response time is great. It seems odd, but the DR-1 was easier, in my experience, to assemble than either the D-V11 or the SE-5A. There's more to it, but it just seem to go together more readily. Maybe that's 'cause it's smaller and easier to handle. One thing: when flying the DR-1 I'd suggest setting your exponential at around 50% for the elevator. The short tail moment makes it very sensitive, though nothing extreme. Flyer |
gp Dr1
Flyer 1..... Boy am I jealous!!!!!!! The eternal wait is killing me.
Preordered from my LHS months ago, but still not here. Must be last on the long long list. Can't wait to get it and paint it pink...HA Ha Ha! Just kidding Scalercflyer/martin.:p WW1ace... Daisy lozenge is brilliant, but martin may actually have a stroke(or hunt you down...Tail full of lead etc....) Martin... What do you think of Joseph Jacobs' or Ernst Kempf's scheme for mi tripe???? I do like the antagonistic comments on the middle wing!! Chris/Murph |
whoops!!
Meant to say Fritz Kempf!!!
|
Well I hope you fellas get your DR1's soon, I'd like to see what paint scheme's you are going to come up with.LoL...?? Now one of life's great mysteries have been solved too, like where are all the dogs in my neighbourhood gone?:< I never knew till now that my indoor electricflyer with 20in wings was a scale copy of the Texan mosquito..I can bring it to our scale meets and enter it.You wouldn't have a 3 view of one would you ?::o ...Well heading out flying this morn boys...you all have a great day...
