The "Move"

Yeah you love struck fool! I've been trying to call you. Guess you needed some time to move into your new "shop". Be sure to show us the setup when you're done, Martin

Murph may be too busy for us right now. He must have a really big backyard too if that's where he is flying!! Steve

The Morane Saulnier L flew tonight. It is very sensitive to controls. Guess I will learn to fly with ailerons one of these days. Flight went kind of good till the three point landing, one wheel, wing tip, and nose. Only had to slip the wing back on, nothing broken so I guess it was a good landing. I now have the copper colored intakes on the engine and you can see them spining on the front of the plane in the air.

Marty, I tried to call you today..:)....I will call again tomorrow..:)

The yard is 2 1/2 acres with no-one behind or on one side.....flat desert....no big trees, but lots of little tumbleweeds......I can definately fly my little electrics here, but the bigger fuel powered stuff has to be flown somewhere else.

Fokker spotted over the So. Cal. Desert.

Hi Guys.....many of you know I moved a week ago from Northern California in the Coastal Redwood Forest, to the Southern California High Desert.....the wind finally died back and this morning is perfect flying weather.....Warm...Sunny....very very light breeze...

I decided the time had come for my first sorties at the new location.

So I went outside to the side yard......took off with my GP Ultimate Biplane ep......had a good flight.....Landing wasn't the prettiest, but was OK.

Then I got out the trusty GP Fokker DVII....
took off and flew the heck out of it.....came in on final approach, and greased it in for a perfect landing.:)

The super flat and hard packed sand side yard landing strip is absolutely perfect for landing 30-36 inch wingspan biplanes West to East or East to West!!
And there is a perfect Landing strip in the very back for landing North to South or South to North!!

I am quite pleased to be able to fly my electrics in the backyard.:tc:

Murph......

degreen60 03-23-2008 06:17 PM

Yes it is nice to just be able to grab a plane and walk outside and fly it. I don't have the landing strip so have to hand launch then land in grass.

It sure is!!!

I feel spoiled.......

The last place I lived was dense forest....all huge redwood, pine, cypress, fir trees etc......absolutely no possible way to fly planes in the yard....
Tried in my neighbors "clearing"....ended up stuck over 100 feet up in a tree...
Had to pay a tree climber to retrieve it....

I now feel truly blessed in the plane flying situation....
No big trees here....:)

Hey Murph - are you anywhere near Calico Dry Lake (Ft. Irwin NTC)?

Hillbilly
:D

Sounds like Murph has it made!! I flew Friday night and Saturday morning. Got home and my shower drain had stopped up and then in the process of charging my batteries my charger smoked itself!! Oh well, still trying to get the drain completely unclogged and ordered TWO new chargers. So at least somebody is having some good luck! Steve

scalercflyer 03-24-2008 04:04 AM

The charger

Musta been one of those cheap texican battery chargers!:D The chargers up north never have any problems! BTW, this is what I use. Plug and play. No need to set any charging rate etc. Charges and balances automatically. I love it. Martin

Hi Bill......I am just North of Lancaster.....not sure what all is around here yet...except Edwards Air Force Base is real close...planes fly overhead all the time.

degreen60 03-24-2008 10:35 PM

Here is the charger I use. Balances and charges for under $9. No setting either. Just plug the battery in.

WWI Ace 03-24-2008 11:20 PM

I went ahead and ordered three new balancing chargers from Hobby City. I've had very good luck with their products and the price was right. I have so many lipolys now that it takes too long to charge them on one charger! I figure with that many chargers going I can charge my batteries in no time!! . In fact having to charge all my batteries is probably what killed my other charger. I have about five flyable planes right now and batteries for all of them to fly twice. When I get good weather for flying I take all my planes to the field. Steve

Chargers

Hey Steve, did you get your chargers yet? How do they work? Also how is Hobby City to deal with? I have some airplane money that needs to be spent. :D Martin

FlyingMonkey 03-30-2008 01:52 PM

came across this, thought I'd share...

My chargers have been shipped but haven't gotten them yet. I haven't had any problems with them yet. All the stuff I've gotten has been good. I've made over ten orders. The shipping takes about two weeks and try not to order anything that's out of stock and you'll be fine. They are supposed to be opening a store in Ohio soon so shipping won't take as long.

Wow. I honestly think I got into this hobby just to fly WWI planes. While I have a mere 12 minutes (yes, that's minutes...as in less than 1/4 hour) of flight time :o on my first plane (super cub), I know I'm destined for this genre. I have loved the bipes and tripes all my life. They're gorgeous. I may have to work on my craft skills if they don't come ARF tho...

Thanks for the pics!

I guess it's all a matter of perspective ;)

WWI Ace 04-05-2008 08:17 PM

Those pictures scared my kids!!! Ha ha!! I know what you guys mean about the wind!! It's blowing 20-30 today and will be blowing 20-30 tomorrow according to the weatherman. I did get to maiden a club members trainer for him last night though about an hour before sundown. It was a glow plane. Yuck!!! Ha ha!! Got it all trimmed out for him but he was still too nervous to take the sticks. We're trying to get an alternate field that is a little bigger. Steve
