I would take DeG. expertise on covering this little gal. What I would like to see? The night fighter version (red diamonds). That way its not all
"RED". DeG: When I put the flight settings to "real" on the FSX...they will land just like the real ones, ground loops are the norm more than nose down in the ground...:D |

Go shoot that Flyzone Albatros right out of the sky. I have several paper model files of the SE5A. You could try printing on tissue paper, I have an artical how to, and use that to cover the plane.

Flyer: I use the orange specials myself for outdoors in most of my 250 series. I have had no issues at all with range. I also have one in a DG1000 sailplane with a SAT plugged in, Specked out many times...again no issues. I bought 5 of them..all five have been great! Good luck on your SE5.[popcorn]

I use the one SAT I got from Spectrum, (came with the radio) it works fine with the orange Rx. I have not gotten the SAT from HK, although I understand they work very well! I was a little nervous at first, but I really have had no issues. Something about $4.99 vs $75.00 makes you squint just a little!! LOL.. Probably have had 50+ flights on the orange Rx.

The plan
If you Guys will look at the construction manual http://www.parkscalemodels.com/downl...Whim_SE-5a.pdf you will see this is a sorta SE5a (a box). By that I mean it has the basic siloulette but it can stand some improvement. So here's the plan: While researching the SE5a (Squadron Signal book), I noticed the fuse to be rounded at the top of the fuse all the way back. Well I decided to add some real thin depron to add a turtledeck. Also I will add some exhaust stacks, and a radiator as well. Of course no respectable SE5a ever went into combat with out a gun(s) so I will add a Vickers MG to the fuse and a Lewis MG to the upper wing. These too shall be made out of depron to keep the weight down. I have some HK 1 1/4" wheels to add to the LG. I have the whole wooden airframe done at this point. Next the controls/gear, the mods and finally covering. If I can find my Wife's camera I will posts some pics. So far it's been fun to build her. Hope it flys good.:D;) Marty

Look at this. I may have to steal some of my wife's jewery to sell. She has learned to keep her purse hid from me.

I ordered the Spad VIII a few days back, once in, I will give a brief review on her. As with most small semi scales, it seems to be common to have a larger fin or stab. We'll see how she actually looks and flies in a week or two, since its coming in on a small boat from china.[popcorn]
|
Anxious to see how it is in the hands of a few members here :)
I would like one myself , but , will wait and see . [popcorn] |
In the single channel days we always made the tail fins about 10% over size so the plane would fly. Course radio control then was a free flight you could turn around so it did not fly away. At least you hoped it would turn, I hunted for one for about 3 days before I found it and knew close to where it landed.

Spad
Have you seen the rudder/fin on the HK Spad? It's HUGE. I don't think it needs to be that big. Great Planes makes a Spad with the scale sized rudder/fin that flys just fine. The HK looks funny to me (then again I am somewhat of a purist):D;) Marty

Another crashed plane arrived today. I think it is going to be a rare bird. Not sure it was use in WWI but info I found says this model was for the military but it was probably never accepted. It did train a lot of German pilots. Need to put the finishing touches on the Bristol Scout so I can start rebuilding it. For those that want to guess here is the tail. There is a small write up about it in Janes WWI aircraft but no pictures.
|
I would be interested to get the rudder/Fin measurement from one of our folks who owns a Great Planes Spad. The length from front to rear of the fin....(along the fuse) the height of the rudder top to bottom. Then a measurement from the propeller to the rear of the rudder. Lets see if pictures can be deceiving.:D
|
GP Spad X111 rudder is 5 inches high 8-1/4 tip to fuse and from front of prop to tail is 27 inches..
I tried to order one today but had no luck getting my order in will have to try again later.. |
I sure wish they would leave the decals off and let the customer apply them. Some of us like to "toy" with our planes spruce them up as they say.
You there Degreen lol |
Hey thanks touche! I got a feeling they both have the same rudder area, when it comes down to the numbers. I'll report the numbers when I get her in for the review.
Get her up in the air and flying, and I bet she looks like the real deal! Hope you can get yours on the boat soon! |
GP Spad
I also have one. Any and all specs upon request Gentlemen. :) Marty
|
Will be interesting to see the specs compared! I never thought I would buy a HK plane, but I couldnt help getting this one, really different scheme compared to the GP model, however I was really close to getting one when I saw everyones on here! Just gotta love the Spad!:D

So..!!! for those that have theirs how is the quality..keeping in mind it's a mass production flyer.
As well did yours come from overseas or from the US warehouse. How long from order to arrival. Thanks I'm on the road in less than a month to escape the snow and cold so may wait till I get to Fla to order it. I'm in big trouble as I'm just down the road from Headsuprc..;) |
