I find COG on my scratch builds by the trial and crash method. As a starting point I like 25% back of the leading edge. On multi-wing planes I set a square against the leading edge of the forward wing and parallel with the bottom of the aft wing. Now read the distance from the 90degree angle on the square to the trailing edge of the lower wing and use that as the wing cord. This worked perfect on my tripehound but not on my M1C. My Bristol M1C has the COG about 18% back of the leading edge on the straight part of the wing. The wing on the plane has large rounded tips, almost a 3rd of each wing.

Ryan Flyer 01-28-2010 05:25 PM

I know it should be about 1/3 back but I will need to carve out the back of the fuse to make that work.

dbcisco 01-28-2010 05:37 PM

never mind.

My First Guess:
A Fokker Dr1 built from Nick Ziroli Plans.
Possibly in Werner Voss' color scheme.

Lets see some pictures.

K CLOSE 02-01-2010 03:57 PM

The lack of pic's is on me. I did snap some, but I used my cell phone. I spent forever last night trying to get them out and onto the net and I can't. I think I'm going to have to buy a memory card for the phone and move them about that way.
Pat did a bang up job on that Avro, he should be proud:ws:. I didn't take the sticks but it looked like a really smooth flyer.

Thats what I did. Much easier to do. My phone takes lousy pics but I can upload pics, music and even movies onto my phone now.

After he tried to fly it he thought he need you to help change the COG, did you have to change it? I am looking forward to what he wants to build next. Waiting to see if I have printed plane he can use as plans.

Central or Allied powers? Can we get hint about that?

I say an Albatros D.II painted up like Oswald Boelcke's?

Ryan Flyer 02-01-2010 08:38 PM

I have some pics to so I will see if K can help me upload them soon. K did help me with the CG and now it flys great.
K I will let you try it next time we fly :)
