Thanks for the input, I will bear that formula in mind. I have the Himax HC 6332-230and the Axi 5345/18 on the list for consideration. The Himax is listed as 2200 W.

Have finished the top wing and now need to proceed with the motor and radio installation prior to covering.

WWI Ace 05-09-2008 11:15 PM

Really nice plane Jordy but it's a little out of scale to your railroad!! Ha ha!! 2200 watts should allow you to fly at a scale speed. Glad I could help a little. Steve

scalercflyer 05-10-2008 12:17 AM

All of you

All of you Guys have absolutely, positively, totally no class at all! Can't any of you think of another color besides RED? to put on your aircraft????? There were a great many WWI birds with not a hint of red anywhere on them. DO NOT make me comes over there cause my Spandaus are loaded and I have plenty of bullets for fools!:D:) Nice job Jordy. Keep us informed about the build. Murph paint her up to that striped color scheme. It's awesome! Steve, Murph, I owe you both a call. Soon Martin

Biplane Murphy 05-10-2008 12:28 AM

Hi Marty....Definately going with the striped scheme...just trying to figure out how I am going to lay it all out before I begin......perhaps tonight or this weekend....:)

FlyingMonkey 05-10-2008 02:10 AM

but real WWI pilots had red planes!

jjordison 05-11-2008 04:42 PM

Thanks, Steve! I will try to post a more current pic or two. I am contemplating Max Muller's DV scheme, which has a red spinner...does that count:)? Jordy

WWI Ace 05-11-2008 06:49 PM

I don't think a red spinner is bad. Each Jasta had their own color for each unit. I'd love to see more pics Jordy!! Steve

Grasshopper 05-12-2008 04:40 PM

Absolutely beautiful job jj.

WWI Ace 05-12-2008 05:58 PM

Wow Jordy!!! Talk about scale!!! That is too cool!! Steve

50+AirYears 05-12-2008 06:26 PM

I remember seeing a Proctor add the claimed "We guarantee at least a year's worth of building fun and enjoyment" with the particular plane. Having once had my hands on one of their kits (Sold it for a nice profit), I believe it!

jjordison 05-13-2008 01:36 PM

Thanks for the compliments, guys! In may case, it's been since 2000, off again on again fun. I work like crazy for a few weeks, then turn to other projects. Slow yes, but I keep from getting burned out and getting sloppy. Now to decide on motor/controller, battery, servos and radio...then I can begin applying the fuselage plywood. Thanks again for the encouragement and advice on the set-up. Jordy

I am so pleased to see all of these scale guys posting here at Wattflyer. While I enjoy the simple bantering that I am so good at, I really appreciate the skill that folks like jjordison is showing and I feel it really raises the bar for the rest of us here.

Here's the Plotted scheme for the stripes etc...on the Fuselage.:)

All paint is going to be hand brushed....and is either Rust-Olium or Krylon.....

Cookie 05-14-2008 03:40 AM

I can appreciate the work, time and expense that goes into such a beautiful scale plane as yours jjordison, however I probably would never fly something with that much work in it. Just too nice to take any chances with it.

I think I hit that bar on landing a couple of times.

At the very least it needs a red cowl. LOL

jjordison 05-15-2008 02:16 PM

Thanks again for the kind words, guys - I wasn't looking for compliments, just wanted to share. What I really wanted was advice on motors, and I got that, which I appreciate. I will keep posting pics as I progress. My Dad was an RC flyer from the 1950's on, but over the years I saw so much gas engine unreliability that I never got serious about RC until the electric boom...built a Nieuport 17 and a P-40B, and only recently did I consider that a 1/4 scale plane like the DVa could fly electric. So keep your fingers crossed, adnt hanks again! Jordy

WWI Ace 05-15-2008 11:16 PM

Come hang out with us whenever you want Jordy!! Steve

scalercflyer 05-16-2008 02:50 AM

We salute you

Jordy we salute you on your build. :D I for one am terribly interested and IMPRESSED with your build of the DVa. :):D A superb job my Boy! :D:) I also second Steve's remarks. Feel free to join us frequently on Wattflyers best thread. BTW, if I can help with some documentation, feel free to let me know. I have an extensive WWI reference library on all types of WWI aircraft (I'm partial to German Fighters). Keep up the good work. Martin
