I've got a response from Parker and he's asked me to bring the batteries back to the hobby shop so I'll drop them off thursday and find out what Chinese manufacturer made these.

Oh yeah, Nice colour scheme on the Dr1, there seems to be so many choices for the DR1 that I might have to build one, just to have a little colour around....and that's almost like switching from GM to Ford for me...LoL...Don
|
Glad to hear you might get your battery problem fixed Don!! Steve

Battery info site
Look at this one Boys! Lots of good stuff on batteries, etc. Martin

You guys building or flying this weekend? I'll probably piddle with something. The wind is supposed to be 20-30mph today so no flying for me! Martin's probably going to put his SE5a together if I were guessing! Steve

SE5a
Well Boys I had to work late today (Saturday) and didn't get to the HS. However, they're holding it for me. :) Being the curious person that I am, I decided to try something. I called all of the HS's in my area inquiring about the kit. Most didn't have it. So I asked each of them if they could do better on the price. Not one of them budged! All said the price was $49.99 + tax. Oh well it's only airplane money!!!! LOL!!!! :D Tomorrow I will have kit in hand. Martin
|
Are ya gonna paint it red Martin? Steve
|
Got it!
Well Boys I picked up the SE5a eflite kit today from the HS. :D :D At first I thought it was just another overpriced ARF but I quickly changed my mind! I am impressed with this kit! :D The kit is somewhat sparse (supposed to be in an ARF). It does, however, have an absolutely beautiful fuselage that is well constructed and complete. :) The control runs are already in place. It has a nice laser cut engine mount already installed, servo bays are cut out and ready to accept the servos. It also has a cockpit installed and engine covers installed. I plan to super detail the fuse and engine and maybe have Snoopy fly her. After all I can't go into battle without a pilot. I will start by adding longer exhaust tubes, painting the exhaust manifolds and adding the missing Vickers to the fuse. After all, I need some fire power to survive in the war choked skies over South Jersey! I will be constructing the kit over the next week or so as time permits. Should go quite quickly. Just need to find that darn camera...... The build thread by aviatordave pretty much shows the steps to basic construction. I will only highlight the mods I will perform. More details to come... Martin. and NO Steve, It will not be red!!!! Not even a little!!!
|
Maybe just a red stripe around the tail Martin? Steve
|
Hi Guys.....Hope you are all well...I was offline since thursday due to a massive storm.....no power/cable/phone/internet for days.....fallen trees everywhere....
Safe and sound but bored to tears... Everything is back to normal as of an hour ago...:) |

Thanks
Thanks Degreen. According to my sources, the fuse had a synchronized Vickers .303 on the port side of the fuse and a Lewis gun on a sliding Foster mount on the upper wing. Captain Albert Ball (British Ace) used this sliding gun feature to great advantage. One of his favorite combat tactics was to stalk German observation planes until he was flying unseen close to the belly of the plane. Then he would rake the German plane from tail to nose with MG fire. This of course was a nasty surprise! Imagine bullets coming up through the belly from out of nowhere! This eflite SE5a kit has the Lewis but doesn't have the Vickers. I plan to make one. Degreen's suggestion is tops. :D Degreen, maybe you have a website for the Vickers MG too. BTW Boys, one of my reference sources for this project is the Squadron Signal SE5a in action book #69. Martin.

I been looking for more WW1 type guns but haven't found any yet. I have some WW1 printed planes that have guns on them that are usable. I been going through them and cropping out the guns. I hope to have a file of them soon. None of them look as nice as the Vickers I found. |
Wow Murph, that is no fun being without power!! Here in the Texas panhandle we have that same problem because of winter storms and tornadoes. At least you're okay!! How are the pups? Steve
|
Hi Steve....The Pups are great.....for them there is just more mud to roll around in, and more sticks to play with...
For me 4 days with no internet was terrible....I had 52 emails to look at and respond to..... that took forever... And the woods in the front yard look like no-mans land between the 2 opposing sides in WW1....Looks like a bomb went off and blasted a bunch of trees....another tree fell this morning.... |
Keep those pups from "marking their territory" or they might get stuck under a falling tree!! I just wish the power would go out at the machine shop where I work (but not at home!), so I could get some extra build time! Steve
|
Have you guys seen the short kits from www.patscustom-models.com yet? Steve

Eflite Se5a
Well Boys I've managed to do some work on the SE5a. :) The small motor/ESC package I bought a year ago fit without any modifications(screwed right to motor box with a flange). However I'm a little scared about just relying on the motor box. If you search the threads you will come across a problem with the motor leaving the GP tripe because of the weak motor box. I think I'll reinforce it anyway. Also the instructions show mounting the servos into the provided hole in the body. WRONG! The pushrods are at least an inch above that. Now I have to come up with a way to lift the servos up so they will be in line with the control runs. I am performing all of the installations BEFORE I put the wings, tail etc on. Makes it a whole lot easier since I only have the fuse to deal with. I will be using a 540mah 2 cell to run her. Also plan to use a BERG RX (I only use BERGS):$ . When I find or borrow a camera, I will post pics. Martin
|
Hello Martin....You are building the E Flight SE5a Arf are you not ? because of your comments on the motor box and servo rods as I didn't see this in my GP se5a arf. Also you mentioned the 540 mah 2 cell lipo, I built my SE5 with a 1350m3cell, GP rimfire motor,10x3.8 apc prop and 25amp GP silver series esc.The combo has plenty of power, rog's in 10ft and usually I need to throttle back to 20% throttle to cruise scale like. The E Flight version sounds a little light on power but maybe it's a lot lighter than my GP version. .. Just a thought /concern that popped into mind when I read your post. The e flight SE5a must be lighter thsn the GP aef version. I'll keep an eye on your build and see how things go for you. Hopefully you don't run into too many more discrepancies like the servo runs and the motor box...I know your a great builder and you'll fix just about anything to make it right, Good luck with the build.

Eflite SE5a
Thanks for the reply Don. Yes this is the eflite kit. AUW is about 10-12 onces. The Power batt combo should be about right. I'm just aggravated about the servo situation. However, I will overcome! This is a very complete kit that's just begging for some super detailing. I already have several "upgrades" in mind. More later. Martin
|
The plane should fly well with your set up then. Mine is about 10 oz heavier which expla[ns the need for more motor and battery in mine.I suspect your plane will likely slow down better for some nice landings. I'll keep the e flight kit in mind if I try another one in the future.Light airplanes almost always fly better.

Degreen, How do I print the page out for the Spandaus? Can't seem to do it. Can you send them to me via e-mail? Martin

I also have made a file of the Vickers gun but haven't made any guns from it yet. |
