May all those that have passed away rest in peace........

WWI Ace 12-24-2007 12:09 AM

That's sad!! It is going to get really difficult to get actual history on the war. As Martin says, "The more accurate the details of WWI are, the older the book!" I guess that also holds true to veterans. May all the soldiers who defended our country rest in peace and their heroic deeds never be forgotten!! Steve

Spoonwasher 12-24-2007 12:37 AM

I'm sorry to hear that another vet has passed on.May he rest in peace with all the others who fought for our freedoms we enjoy today and the future.
In Canada we have adopted wearing something Red on fridays,to show support for our troops . Xmas day I will practice the same and say a prayer for all.
Merry Christmas to all of you.
Don

Taube Video!!

Hi All,

I bumped into a friend of mine at the LHS a couple days ago and he slipped me a disk of video he shot of a Taube flight of mine from last summer. So, I put together a video and posted it to my site. There are two: A large one (20G): Taube Video Large and a smaller one (7G): Taube Video Small

This is my first attempt at a video and Movie Maker is weird...

I hope you enjoy it! I have more photos in the build log here: http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17332 in post #9

Thanks,

Franny

WWI Ace 12-29-2007 06:53 PM

Wow!! That's a cool video Franny!! Thanks! How's the DVIII coming along? I haven't checked your build thread in awhile. From what I've seen of it I like it. Will probably be another great looking plane! Steve

degreen60 12-29-2007 07:51 PM

Wish I could find a web site that had the Spandau. Also I would like to have the Lewis. I have some printed planes that I need to look at and see if they have a good Spandau. Here are a pictures of the Spandau and Vickers that I thought maybe could be glued on foam and make guns for the front of the planes.

Spoonwasher 12-30-2007 12:00 PM

nice video Franny!I didn't know you had a website. I'll have to drop in and check it out.
Don

Spoonwasher 12-30-2007 01:02 PM

I visited our site Franny, well done.I also noticed you have an eye for photography . The site was a pleasure to visit. Like Arny says " I'll be back"
Don

Franny 12-30-2007 04:48 PM

Thanks Don and Steve!

Glad you liked the video. The music I picked for the video is J.J. Johnson - Almost Like Being In Love. Rather sums it up I thought... And, he is my favorite bone player...

Yes, please peruse my website... We have travel photos from Europe and the US. Some great photos in Munchin at the Deutsches science technology museum. They have an original DVII!

I do need to add more general photography to the site. I'll get to that at sometime...

Thanks!

Franny

Franny 12-30-2007 04:52 PM

Burned up battery

Wow close call alright Spoonwasher! Here is a suggestion I got from Steve awhile ago. Take 2 plastic bags (don't have to be big) and fill them with play sand. Place 1 each above and below the battery being charged. Charge in the normal manner. If the battery decides it needs to puff up and catch fire, the plastic bag melts and smothers the fire (no air/no fire). :D I know several people in the club that keep sand in a bucket near the workbench for just an occasion (rare BTW). This sandbag fire stopper is cheap and very effective. BTW, I store all of my LIPOLs in an aluminum ammunition box. It has a seal at the top as well as being metal. :) Martin

Put them in your grill to charge them. They can burn all they want in there.

Yeah but my batteries keep smelling like BBQ!!!! Haha!!! Steve

Is this suppost to put battery fire out or just keep it from catching something else on fire? I thought the chemicals in the battery burned without added air same as a rocket motor. I don't know cause I have not had one on fire.

Burned hotdogs?

Biplane Murphy 12-31-2007 06:45 PM

For those who have not seen one catch on fire....this one was charged to about 11 volts at the time.

Spoonwasher 12-31-2007 07:15 PM

Great video murph...should be required viewing for anybody who uses Lipo's.I did do the right thing as to never leave these batteries unattended while charging.I spoke with a gentleman today about the issue and he told me there was a poor batch of batteries made in china that swell even while sitting, to take them back.....I'll search the forums for more info and keep these ones I have now outside in the firepit....enough of the battery things but thought I would update my earlier comment...back to warbirds....as i'm a lot calmmer today than yesterday...now working on something to fly for a new years day /start the year off right - flight..
Don

Spoonwasher 12-31-2007 07:23 PM

I keep two fire extingishers in my shop that can put out anything, just incase...but these batteries are going out in the cold...I've had my fill of them...

WWI Ace 12-31-2007 09:40 PM

If you don't mind my asking Spoonwasher, who is the maker of these particular Chinese batteries that your referring to? I'd like to know also if it was a recent shipment or have you had the batteries for awhile? Oh, and my batteries smell like smoked sausage!! Steve

Spoonwasher 01-01-2008 12:07 PM

Happy New Year Steve.... and no I don't mind you asking about the batteries. I bought then late august, imported by Parker Models here in Canada, red shrink wrap package but no brand name. They were 2000mah, 15c 3 cell lipo's.I sometimes fly indoors with the guy who imports this stuff and he also has a web site so I'm going to contact him directly and maybe I can get more info as who actually manufactured his stock.
Don

WWI Ace 01-01-2008 02:19 PM

I'd like to know Don. I bought a couple of packs from United Hobbies but no problems so far. I parallel them in my .25 size DR1. Martin that camoed DR1 looks kinda like a candy cane! But it's cool!! Steve
