This is a plane that my son Scott did the art work on and I (Mike) did the scale work on. Controls rudder and elevator work by thread it uses the park zone mustag guts. We home make 10 kits a week for sale.

Just read your thread, and subscribed.

Very nice!

That's a cool little plane MOdesigner even if it does have red white and blue TARGETS on the wings!!! LOL!!! Steve

scalercflyer 03-21-2010 07:06 PM

High in the sky

High in the sky circles Baron Von Martin in his Albatros looking for some easy meat when he spies the DH2 below him. Knowing his Albatros DIII is superior to the DH2, he pushes the stick forward into a screaming dive.... the DH2 grows bigger by the second... he reaches for the triggers knowing the British pilot doesn't see him.............. to be continued.......

degreen60 03-22-2010 12:20 AM

Just as he starts to fire bullets hits the Albatros and he jerks the stick to get away. He was so intent on shooting the DH2 that he did not notice Snoopy in his Camel was flying cover for the DH2.

scalercflyer 03-22-2010 01:27 AM

Nice try

Nice try D! The Camel didn't come along until later. Von Martin

All Snoopy ever flew was a Camel so it must have been later in the war or maybe Snoopy had a very early prototype Camel.

dbcisco 03-22-2010 02:23 AM

Snoopy flew a doghouse. No one knows who the manufacturer was.

scalercflyer 03-22-2010 03:34 AM

The circles

Alas Von Martin finds out this is no novice! The DH2 screams into a tight climbing turn........ Von Martin's bullets briefly go through the tail section of the DH2 and then into space.......... the DH2 is more maneuverable but the Albatros is faster..... the mad circling begins.... first to the right then to the left with neither pilot expecting anything other than victory.............no quarter is given or taken.....

you guys should see the DH2 in person. it's a fantastic looking model. very scale and they print color and details right onto the foam! I love it.

it's small and light and a great flyer. I took a few videos of it at the RC extravaganza in the Kansas City Airline History Museum.

check it out:

and:

sorry about runnin' my mouth during the video, I was havin' a great time!

I wish I would have been able to hold still better. I stayed up late working on my SSW D.III Lite version. I should have taken these videos in 1080p instead of 720.

I'm gonna pick-up a DH2 kit to fly for the next indoor season.

I thought he flew a Sopwith triplane and that's why they called them "tripehounds"!!! LOL!!! Steve

Thanks for the video

:ws:Thanks for the video and the sound was great

What other planes have you guys made MOdesigner?

Ron 03-25-2010 07:32 AM

I have it on good authority that it was a Sopwith doghouse..predecessor to the Pup :-)

Good one

degreen60 03-25-2010 02:22 PM

Hi, my name is Don and I am a WW1 RC plane junky. I need help from the group. There have been some WW1 planes listed for sale on the RC group. I been looking through wife's things to sell to get money to buy them. Either help me through this crisis or make an offer on her jewelry.

MOdesigner 03-25-2010 02:23 PM

Besides the DH2

Other than the DH2 Kits we are working on the on a 15in wing span Fokker E-III with wing warping not sure it can be done on a small scale. Also in the design is a small Albatross DIII working out the problems of the body of the aircraft.

I might be interested in a German kit. They were the only ones that built good warplanes!!! Steve

MOdesigner 03-26-2010 03:48 AM

Well it would be a 99.9% made in the USA German kit ;)

I'd like to see an Albatross, they are difficult to build yourself and rarely modeled as ARF's because of the monocoque fuselage.

That one looks like it has enough "poop" to be very powerful!!! LOL!!! Steve

degreen60 04-12-2010 01:36 AM

The Scorpio Nieuport 28 flys again. After the rebuild without a manual I had to find trim by trial and crash. After 4 crashes I have the planes flying nice. It does not like extra power. I put a 2410-8 brushless, 2s lipo, and 9x6 prop. At full throtle it is a beast to handle, half throtle is a good take off spot, and 1/4 throtle flys nice. This is not a plane you can take your eyes off and expect it to keep flying. Going to full throtle to get out of trouble will get you into more trouble. I am thinking of putting the same motor in this plane I have in my Eflight Nieuports. The Eflights weight 7 oz less than this plane. I am going to a smaller prop first and see if that helps on full throtle.

scalercflyer 04-12-2010 02:18 AM

The 28

De do you think she's over powered? Or perhaps your running into a "P" factor with that large prop. Maybe going to a smaller prop/smaller motor will help as you say (I agree). How's the CG? Most WWI bipes were slightly underpowered anyway. I'd consider a less powerful motor. Here's a favorite of mine. Marty

I think it is over powered. Most of my planes are over powered cause I fly outdoors all the time and sometimes I need the extra power if the wind starts blowing while I have a plane in the air. I think on this plane as it picks up speed the rudder become too sensitive and the plane wants to roll over into a spiraling dive. It don't care which way you turn, it wants to roll that direction. I know I have read where others talk about the plane rolling upside down and diving. An easy fix would be to just set my throtle to only go half way but then I wouldn't have much control for the motor. I am hoping a smaller prop will be the easy fix. At 1/4 to 1/2 throtle control is good enough I was flying below tree tops and just over head high.

Biplane Murphy 04-12-2010 04:27 AM

Do you think it is a matter of the fictitious "centrifugal force" when at full throttle?

I built a Pitts Bipe with at least 2 1/2 times the size of suggested glow engine on it (.07-.10 replaced with a .25)( :Q ), and it flipped over every single time I tried to take off, due to that. The plane died a horrible death.

degreen60 04-12-2010 12:31 PM

I think the plane is very sensitive to rudder control and the faster it flys the more so. I have read other threads that say the cure to flipping over is less rudder control. As I apply more power I have to be very careful with the rudder. At half power and with rudder control on the inter holes of the servo arm it flys nice. I don't want to fly at high speed anyway but I would like more movement on the throtle control so I don't have to be careful and not adavance the throtle too much. The cure maybe just a low pitch prop.

That would be a good test!
If the low pitch prop doesn't fix the issue, perhaps a smaller diameter one.

7car7 04-12-2010 08:20 PM

Sounds like you've got it D - I was thinking lower pitch prop.

I'm sure I missed it - is this an aileron plane? Or just 3 channel?

degreen60 04-13-2010 03:04 AM

I had a 8x4.3 prop so I tried it, not enough power with it to fly the plane. The plane is a 3 channel. I have a 8x6 I will try next. I am using a 1260 KV motor. I have a 840 KV in some of my planes, maybe that is what I need in this one. Turn a 9x6 prop like a geared brush motor would.

degreen60 04-13-2010 09:03 PM

I found a 8x6 prop I did not know I had in my junk. I installed it on the Nieuport 28 and it flights great. Take off at full throtle was without a problem easy to control. Flying at half throtle or less the plane did not loose hight. If I put the plane into a dive as it picked up speed it wanted to roll off to either side. I think next time I will get the plane real high and dive just to see what it does if I let it roll. My test pilot has the guts to do it, wonder if I do. HAHA.

Hey D do you need a geared brushed motor? I have plenty of them. Be glad to donate if you wish. Marty

I have a box full of brush motors too that I have replace with brushless outrunners. I tried an inrunner with a gear box on one plane but replaced it with an outrunner. An outrunner pulls less amps than a motor using a gear box so can fly longer.

scalercflyer 04-14-2010 12:38 AM

I agree

Couldn't agree more D. Just trying to be helpful. If you ever "REALLY NEED ONE" drop me a line (darn, Marty says to himself, I wish he bit on my offer.....drats.... thought I would get rid of one of my boat anchors...................LOL):D Marty
