My friend had been flying this 1/4 scale Balsa USA kit for awhile but grew tired of it. I was able to pick it up from him and converted it to electric power with an AXI 5330/24 on 10 cells, Over powered but needed the weight. It swings a 22/12 prop and I can fly her 4 times on one charge. Each flight can be about 6 mins. 8000 mah lipolys are great for the weigh needed for the balance. I'll see if I can stick a clip of it on here for you guys. Oh, and a shot of the Fokker D7 that is about 90 percent done.

Cool, glad you noticed it. We get to the field before the sun comes up so often times I like to take a sunrise shot or two, was sorta blurry though,but Thanks,,,

This old Balsa USA Fokker DR1 is still around and in flying condition. I want to install a larger AXI in her. When I first flew this Fokker DR1 I had a AXI 4130 geared 2 to 1 on 30 nmh cells,boy that was the old days. If I put a 5330/24 on 10 cells I will need a bunch of weight up front but it will fly much better. The old motor set up flew it way to close to scale, I like a little extra in reserve if ya know what I mean. I forgot about thes other WW1 planes.

Very very nice blade! I especially love tripes and Albatros'. I'm guessing they fly great. I have a set of plans for the DVa (WE Technical plans with an 89"WS) and a set of plans (ala Nick Zoroli) of the 1/4 scale DRI. Also a friend of mine gave me a previously flown (and dorked) 1/4 scale Zoroli DRI which I will someday repair and finish. The D-VIII better NOT be disallowed. I have 2 sets of control line plans, 5 sets of RC plans, and at least 6 sets of FF plans for that plane, along with 2 FF kits.

Technically the D.VIII/E.V is a Biplane...don't forget that little wing between the wheels!

I would still like to see a 36" Taube. The only kits I know of are by Balsa USA, and they are quite large...83 1/2" and 62".

Actually, if you count that little wing, the D-VIII is a Sesquiplane. That is, a plane in which the lower wing is of smaller chord and/or span than the upper wing, like the Nieuport 17.

Nice planes Im into ww1 planes too I would like to build a Hannley page bomber or any outher ww1 bomber ,but I cant find any kits of them. atleast in a small scale. pictured is one of my planes. I make the motors to rotate with the prop by incorperating a bearing on the fire wall and a copper tube through the plastic motor bolting the assembly together.Of course its just a static plane after this is done.

Take a look at my MS-L in my previous post. The motor is foam cyclinders wrapped with printed paper and glued to the bell of the brushless motor. It spins when the plane is flying.

I been thinking about that idea for while. If somone would invent a detailed motor cylinder set that would fit a outrunner motor. That would be cool. Did you have any vibration problems when you did yours? What type of glue holds it on?

Nice plane! Will be cool to see some cockpit details in that one. You large plane guys have it easy, the weight gane is so negligible compared to the little ones.

it will be a fairly lengthy recover job. but i'll be using iron on cloth instead of dope.

similar paint scheme but more correct.

you've got that right.

i have the lower wing stripped now and am ca'ing all the joints and making sure everything is solid before recovering.

it will be the spring before i'm done for sure

I did not have any vibration problems using foam and paper. I used Loctite NO MESS Adhesive. Here is a URL for paper motors. I enlarged one motor till the ring the the cyclinders fit on just fit the bell of my brushless motor.
