Up until the time the man with the funny moustache came to power the swastika was simply a lucky symbol and has it's roots in ancient history. From it's inception until the end of WW2 the Finnish Air Force used a light blue swastika as its emblem.

Kiwi.....I knew it was a very old symbol of power etc...swirling 4 ethers or something along those lines. Hijacked and ruined by nazis.:< Just didn't realize it's earlier use in WW1.( or by the Finns)
After seeing those photos I searched a website martin suggested before. Found these 1st pic #419/17 2nd pic in the background #? 3rd pic artwork....don't know if accurate. I wonder if blue tail Dr1 in your photo is modeled after #1 or #2 or other.(hard to tell with black and white photos) Chris/Murph |
Kiwi...........Oh Yea......
I thought that funny moustache was actually.... really super long nose hair!! HE HE HE HE !! |

The last 5 Dr1 photos I posted are all in Jasta 11 markings and I reckon the one in the background is definitely the blue tailed one.

Hi Kiwi,
You wouldn't happen to have any DVIII photos would you? Thanks, Franny |

Sorry, Peter doesn't have a D VIII. (Yet!)

Kiwi......Did you say he has 12 Dr1's or 12 WW1 aircraft, because you keep sending photos and I haven't been counting!!
So many nice birds.....so far away. Murph |

Neither! 7 flyable Dr 1s, plus another in his museum depicting the death of Richthofen, the 2 Pfalzs are the ones from the Blue Max movie as is the D VII. There is also a Taube, a Halberstadt, and a Seimans Schukert from the german side. The museun aircraft can be taken outside and flown, their display in the museum is done by Weta Workshops who did all the Lord of the Rings, King Kong etc special effects. It sure helps when the collection is the pet project of a film producer!
|
So.......14 german aircraft plus some from the allied forces!!!

The Pfalz DIII
Kiwi, it's great to see the Pfalz is still flying! :) The BLUE MAX was my favorite movie for many years. :) I'm grateful she's doing so well. Martin PS: I love the camo scheme even if it's not accurate! :$

These two even have the correct engines installed. Both of them have their own distinctive sound in the air.

degreen60 where's that camel?:<
I took the camel out for a nice relaxing fly last night. I can never find one of those tri when I am in the air. I think they know the camel is the better plane and go hide. HAHA |
Work is continuing slowly on my Fokker tripe. Steve.

Steve.......How about some build pics of that tripe??

Well guys, my four footed one humped desert animal arrived last night.
I just need to scrounge up a Snoopy to pilot it when it's finished. I have the power system for it...It's a Maxcim D wind, and it will be using a 3 cell 8000mah TP pack. Swings a 15 X 8 prop at roughly 5000 RPM. Nice looking model...I'm anxious to get going on it. I think my work bench is under that pile of airplane stuff in the garage. |
Dick: why not get the shape for the cross and trace it onto a piece of appropriately colored monokote....cut it out with scissors, and then apply it to the model with a bottle of windex. spray the windex onto the model, and lay the cross onto it stick side down, remove all the moisture with a squeegee, let it dry overnight, and voila, you're done. it isn't difficult to do, and takes very little time, and best of all it's not expensive.
OR you can do it with a paint brush, which is usually what I do, and the results are great. a set of 8 crosses on a 1/3 sized model only takes a couple evenings with a brush, or an hour or two with the monokote method. |

There used to be a product you could get at craft stores where you spread a couple coats across the artwork and let it dry, thenyou could wash the paper itself off leaving the ink inage. Haven't seen it in 10 or 15 years, tho.
|
Hey Ron..........So does the windex work like trim solvent? But less stinky?
Does it activate the adhesive? Thanks......Murph |
