Thanks for your reply...I'll check it out. I have a Traplet plan catalog buried somewhere. Seems to me that the struts might be a nightmare to build and cause a lot of drag which equates to "more power"!!!
Now to find some references........

11 pages later and you wanna move it now? A lot of the birds here aren't scale - for a quick example - your Polks with its large rudder for instance, and my foamie which is semiscale if your lucky. I don't care either way though, majority or moderators will rule the decision in the end. :)

Guys, what I need is good color scheme images for fokker triplanes. Hopefully, a layout that I can use and apply to my model without too much work in the art dept'. Any one got anything in their collection? I keep getting the nudge when I show 'yet another red barron' color scheme.

I'm for voting it stay put. I agree with WWI Ace. It belongs to us. NITRO you have but to ask and I will come up with something that should blow your mind.... I have tons of reference material and just about every book that was ever printed about the DRI. Let me work on it a bit. I will e-mail you pics. When I do my tripe (pay attention WWI Ace!), I plan to photo copy my coat of arms and shrink to size so it fits under my cockpit area (just like the movie the Blue Max and Hildelmann's DVII) Martin

Thanks Martin, I have pictures of color schemes but I was trying to dodge doing them up, opting for printing them ( all done for me - sucha lazy boy) instead and applying them to the balsa. eg. top wing, middle wings, bottom wings etc :)

There's a good book called "Flying Colors" with a few pics of the DR 1 that are a little different.

I'm for keeping this thread where it is. WWI planes present a unique set of challenges that do not apply to general scale.

After 263 posts, why change now?

Instead of me reading everyone of the 263 posts I will just ask does anyone here have tried the Global Wattage Sopwith Camel WW1 park flyer becuase its only $29.99 at towerhobbies.com and was wondering how easy was it to build and fly. Thanks. I chopped my brothers elevator tip of his GWS corsair with my GWS beaver but it didn't crash that happen this morning the peice just fluttered down and we found it and glued it back on the plane landed safely if you was wondering. It was a clean cut. But anyway back to topic if you have tried the Sopwith camel tell me how it flies and how good was it to build was it harder to build lets say a GWS kit or easier just wondering but beyond that the flying is the most important thing. Thanks for any replies.:)

Shark, I have one of these kits. The plane goes together quickly enough but you should read the E-zone thread on this plane. I ended up putting dihedral in the upper wing. The struts are garbage. I am in the process of making new ones that are 1 piece to keep the wing aligned correctly. The other thing about the kit is the motor/gearbox is trash. The E-zone thread recommends replacing with a GWS 370 which I did. I am close to completion but have not gotten the time to finish it. :( I may post pics soon. Martin

I agree. I had one of these too. I flew mine completely stock, no upper wing dihedral. It flew okay but it's really "floaty". If you like a slow flying plane it will work, just build very carefully if you build it stock!!! Take the motor out of the gearbox, submerge it in tap water and run it on one regular D-size battery for about five minutes or until the water becomes cloudy. Blow all the water out of the motor and lightly oil the bushings on each end. It sounds stupid but your brushed motors will last longer and make more power if you do this!!! DO NOT SUBMERGE YOUR ESC!!!! don't use it at all for this, just the flashlight battery hooked directly to the motor leads. Steve.

I've just found this thread, so please excuse me going backwards a little.

I've built the Rake Tripe from the FSM plans, and it's a beauty! :)

45" span, 3lb 10oz. An AXI 2820/10 is surrounded by 9 CP1700 cells (that replicate the engine cylinders of the original) turning a 12x6 APC.

I've modified the design so that the wings detach as complete 'cells' for easy storage/transport. The ailerons are linked together and give a very crisp roll response.

Like most Tripes it tends to noseover at the end of its landing run on our grass strip, but that's all part of the challenge!

I was so impressed with the Tripe that I thought I'd go one better, and build the Armstrong Whitworth Quadraplane as my very first own-design project.

33", 34oz, Typhoon15 on 7 CP1300 cells (inside the cowl again!).

Flies just like the Tripe!

Thanks for the compliment!

The Jab doesn't qualify as a WW1 plane, but the plans have been submitted to Traplet Publications and should see the light of day as a plan feature in an upcoming issue of QEFI magazine.

Back to the Tripe and the Quad though; whilst neither are 'everyday' flyers, it's always nice to take advantage of a calm summers day and get them together for the camera.

That's seven wings and fourteen ailerons.................:eek:
