That's the way his lawyer tried to play it but we weren't buying it!! Steve

scalercflyer 05-03-2008 11:34 PM

Hang him

I think they should publicly hang him. Or perhaps drawn and quartered. Whatever the punishment, it wasn't enough. Martin

I love mine Fred.:tc:

I have had it since they first released them, and have put countless flights on it.:)

FlyingMonkey 05-04-2008 01:30 AM

Have you done anything to dress it up?

I cut Obi-Wan Kenobi in half.....glued the top half in my SE5A, and the bottom half upside down "feet up" in the Fokker DVII...HAHAHAHHAHA

The only other things I did to it was install an E-Flite 480 in her with a 40amp ESC and a 2100mah 3s Thunder Power Lipo....:)

And increased the throws on all of the control surfaces to as far as they would physically travel.....

That's pretty much it.

FlyingMonkey 05-04-2008 01:41 AM

I meant to make it MORE scale, not less :D

Oh....I thought you wanted to know how I souped it up way beyond scale, almost to the point of 3D....:):tc::D:Q;-):$;)

FlyingMonkey 05-04-2008 04:04 AM

ugh...

Tonight I painted the engine part of the battery cover black, as well as the front screen.

I also have nearly covered the plane in a matte finish. I brushed it on in a cross weave pattern, so now it looks like cloth.

Is that red Dr1 on the ground cause my Camel is in the air?

WWI Ace 05-05-2008 06:00 PM

No Degreen!! It's just waiting till there is enough Camels in the air to make it a challenging fight!! Steve

FlyingMonkey 05-06-2008 12:44 AM

yeah, so cut that camel in half, blind the pilot, and just toss it up there, that should make it fair.... :D

WWI Ace 05-06-2008 06:10 PM

Anybody see the short article in Model Aviation about the flying characteristics if the DR1? Steve

Cookie 05-06-2008 06:51 PM

It flies just like the real thing. You have to fly it and keep your eyes on it the whole time.

WWI Ace 05-07-2008 12:11 AM

Yeah Cookie I have two DR1s!! I love flying them!! I just thought it was funny that alot of people seem to have bought the little Electrifly DR1 only to find out what its manners are like!! Yes they look cool, but you have to have some skill to fly them. Steve

I find my Kavan Albatros is the same way, don't take your eyes off it while flying or you might not find it again. Maybe it is just those planes with the black crosses on them.

Cookie 05-07-2008 01:48 AM

When I first flew it, it bucked and jerked and did all kinds of crazy stuff. Then it dawned on me. This thing flies like the real WW1 airplanes. It's not necessarily bad characteristics. It just has to be flown and controlled, unlike so many easy to fly model airplanes.

I saw where someone got rid of the Wattage Camel cause they said it crabbed in the wind. Well wonder what he thought the real ones did. LOL. Mine crabs in the wind and turns real quick looking like the tail is swinging around the prop. I think it looks nice.

I actually have two Wattage Camels, one in the traditional colors and another that I changed to look like a German plane. They both fly great. Of course I took out the weak geared brushed motor and installed brushless motors in both of them. I also added dihedral in the wings to make them more stable. Because of the design, they both fly relatively slow even with the brushless motors, but they have a lot more power and are easier to take off.

I did not ever install the gearbox and motor that came with my Wattage Camel but installed a brushless to start with. I did not install the wire for a landing gear either but made one with bamboo skewers. I also added dihedral in the wings, installed brace wires on both the wings and the tail. Sence it needs so much weight in the nose I use 6 1800 Nimh cells in an upside down U over the motor under the cowl. The Wattage cowl got real beat up and I made a new one using the bottom of a large Lysol wipe container. Mine is starting to show wear and tear from my landings. I am thinking of repainting in US Navy colors. The US Navy had some, I don't know if they used them in WW1 or after the war.

Cookie 05-07-2008 02:57 PM

I don't think the U S Navy used them during WW1. They may have used a few after the war, but I think they used the Jenny's more than anything else for training. The cowls are very thin. I reinforced mine with fiberglass and epoxy which also added some necessary nose weight. The landing gear wire is real weak, so I made landing gear out of heavier wire and installed it in an added piece of wood glued into the fuselage. Both planes are now up in my higher storage area in "mothballs" but I keep them in case I want another slow flyer.
