Well, I finished up (for the most part) my SE5a, (need to repair the tail skid after a hard landing).

And I just put together a GP DRI. Bone stock. Should be interesting, I hear they're a handful.

I bought a couple sheets of Depron foam the other day, I'm going to make a super simple quick and dirty plane for the kids to fly. I've got some GWS gear laying around I'll throw on it. Not really sure what kind of plane it's going to be yet. Something slow and stable.

Here are lots of printed paper WW1 models. You can download one free every 15 min. I have enlarged these, tile printed, and use to make a foam model. You could even use to make plans for a build up model.

Love that sight. I have used it for my wwII Bf 109 build. Just cant say enough about "wings pallette" Havent looked much at the wwI stuff but just pulled the trigger on the NP Tiger Moth and will consider recovering at some point when it looks a little rough around the edges.....roughly 1.534 flights.

Dangit degreen, now I have another project.:D Downloaded the Albatros and man they can be blown-up huge!!!!:$ Now that you got me into this... what do you use for tile printing. I want to do a 36" wingspan foamie.

I use PosteRazor, it is a free program. I also use scaleandtile but I do not remember if scaleandtile will work with JPG files. It may only work with PDF files.

I was looking at color schemes here and when I looked at one plane it had the paper model listed, the more I look the more paper models I found. I already had a large collection of paper WW1 planes I had got off the net, now I am adding to it.

De, please 'splain the PosteRazor program to me so I can use it. I may need a minute though, my eyes are watering!!!!! Marty

PosteRazer will scale a drawing to the size you want then tile it to print on letter paper so you can cut and tape it together full scale. You can scale up plans or even scale up the paper model, glue it on foam and make it the model.

Thanks, my wife takes the pictures. She does a good job. It took me awhile to convence her to stand in front of me so I could see her and the plane at the same time to do low slow fly bys. What convenced her was a landing where she stood back far enough that I could not see her and when the plane went by me it hit her on the leg, she found out foam planes don't hurt and if I can see her I can miss her.

No, it is an Eflite Nieuport 17 changed into Capt. Harry Gwynne's "Flying Fish". It was a training plane in France so it has no gun. The scale sides are a large sticker I made on the computer. The eyes and stars are also stickers made on the computer. Teeth are just cut out of sticker paper and stuck on. Wings and tail are painted silver then stripped with a black marker. It was made using b/w pictures.

Neat! How do you like the Eflite Nieuport? I have been looking at that one but I had been told that it was really flimsy.

I have the Eflite Jenny and 2 Nieuports. They are flimsy and light. Brace wires are needed. My Jenny will loop and do rudder rolls. I did X bracing on every bay and have a bamboo skewer on the bottom wing of the Jenny. On all planes I did not install servos where shown but installed them with pull-pull controls. I think this saves weight at the tail and looks more scale, also on the Jenny it takes care of the problem with the rudder breaking where the control rod attaches. I built the first Nieuport with just brace wires, changed front wires to match a 17(I don't think the kit matches either a 17 or 11). When I pulled the brace wires tight the bottom wing bowed so I add a bamboo skewer to it. The other Nieuport had the top wing mashed in shipping(I bought both with shipping damage). I coated the top wing with white glue, added a CG strip as a spar, and added a CF rod at the front bottom edge. This made the wing stiff again. The fuselage is thin and will crush if you sqeeze it too hard. I like the way they fly, very slow and relaxing. Landing can be made with almost no forward roll. I am thinking of trying to get a SE5A to go with them. Maybe trade one of the Nieuports to someone that bought 2 of the SE5As like I bought the Nieuports.

Yes, it is a flimsy plane, especially the wings. One problem I had with mine is that because of the V-shaped interplane struts it is very easy to mount the top wing with some warp in it. You really have to be careful of this. However, if everything is straight it is a great flyer. Do not let its flimsiness discourage you - it is a very worthy aeroplane.
