For me the BF109e had the look of a killing machine, all business and no frills, the lines were unmistakable. If i were to have one on my tail i would have wanted to be in a P-47. A big beautiful Jug that brought many of our boys home to fight another day.

I heard an old WW II fighter pilot say. If you want a picture to send home it's the P-51, If you wanted to go home, it's the P-47. Avenger pilots where brave, but what about the Devastator pilots, family jewels the size of watermelons. I also have a affection to the Mosquito, A-20 Havoc, B-26 Marauder, SBD Dauntless, Hellcat, FW190 and the Gooney Bird, which I have a model of. The uglyist WW II plane has to be the Helldiver or the Storck (sic)

offtom 03-18-2011 05:18 PM

Like them all

but at the top probably P-40, P-61, B-17,

I am going to have to go with the Spitfire, and the Corsair, Black Sheep Squadron all the way. Favorite medium bomber B-25, and heavy bomber B-17 of course, my father-in-law worked on them in England during the war. Axis planes, I have to go with the Stuka, awesome plane with the distinct scream when diving. Aww, crap, I like em all really. I have seen just about all of them in Dayton at the Airforce Museum. I can spend hours in that place.

Ooh, tough question - so many to choose from. In terms of my favourite to look at I can't really decide between the Spitfire and the P51.

Just can't make up my mind tonight...

Fantastic sentiments, so well put; for me it would have to be either the Bristol Beaufighter or the de Havilland Mosquito. Do I really have to decide????

Ah yes, the Mosquito, another fine aircraft. Its a shame you done see too many models of that particular plane.

Great videos Hank. So majestic, I don't really think that modern aircraft can acheive that look in the air.

I agree however a clubmate has two Mossies one electric and one I/C:D
What about a Westland Whirlwind? That plane just looked fantastic and they were stationed close by at Exeter.

one of my favorite airshow memories is a black Marines version knife edging low overhead

earthsciteach 06-05-2011 02:56 PM

There is something about the lines of a B-25 that really does it for me! I read a book about the Air Apaches who flew low level attack missions in the Pacific when I was a kid. Really amazing!

yorcram 06-07-2011 05:41 PM

1- Fw190A Good looking and tuff.
2- Ki-84 great lines.
3- Anything with wings

Cheers,

Hands down the Whistling Death for the fighter(which I will soon get a UM version of), and for bombers, B-29 all the way. Of course if you want the baddest sounding bomber, Lancaster with the 4 Merlins.
