Are you serious Murph? I don't know what to say!! How are you guys always so generous? I have met some of the greatest people on this site, (like Martin who's friendship I wouldn't trade anything for!!)!!! I like how everyone is always helping everyone else. I would do anything I could to help you guys!! Too bad there aren't more people like this in the world, maybe some of the stupidity would go away. As far as the paved runway, it will start of as packed red clay which sets up as hard as concrete. Later on when the club gets rolling good we plan to pave it. Steve.

The muffler/header could use a little cleaning, but the engine has very little flight time on it. I used it in a low wing sport plane only in super windy conditions...A huge gust of crosswind blew the plane into the safety fence when on takeoff.... end of plane.

Someone should get to use it, I never will....I have 2 other engines that size.
I got it new as part of a really good deal buying everything a guy had when he realized the hobby wasn't for him.....

I'd really like to do a SPAD VII (or XIII as a second choice) but the Dynaflite S.E.5a is reportedly a really nice flying giant. 64" span and lands like a parkflyer. There's two videos on this page of it in flight: http://www.hoosierdawnpatrol.com/hoo...patrol_007.htm

As for power, it'll be electric of course. I have a few spare Astro Cobalts laying around. I just sold my old but barely used geared 40 so I may go with the Cobalt 25 geared or belted. 16" or 18" prop on either nimh's for balance or lipos if balance is okay. I could always order a big brushless from UH. There are a lot of options for powering the SE5a as the wing has a lot of area and it's not that heavy considering the size of the thing.

Speaking of DVIII's...... one of my flying friends was at a fun fly, and had a midair while flying his GP Electrifly DVII.... the lower wing was destroyed, so he removed it and flew again with only the top wing....One of the older Scale enthusiasts laughed at him and said that was the funniest but worst way to turn a DVII into a DVIII......:Q

I had a successful maiden flight with my GP D.VII with the experienced help of my friend and a buddy box set-up and all the bad things that went through my mind thankfully never happened. :ws:
The midair contact is one thing we have no problems with. Stuff happens and it happens quite frequently but not with the good B1-RDs. We smack out SCs all the time.::o Last weekend I was driving my FF and he had his HBZ SC up and the rubber nose hit him about 100 ft. above us.:sad: We both flew away from the contact area after dropping about 50ft. or so then landed to inspect for damage.:) None was found so off we went to fly for a few hours more.:tc:
The Fokker flies very well. I used the stock motor and speed control which provided plenty of power. these biplanes are really a blast to drive. The Great Planes kit was put together with quality and care. They earned my loyalty to their product line. I'm looking at the DR I as my next project or maybe a Jenny. So many planes and so little time.:D

Glad to hear that your maiden went well Maxheadspeed. Welcome to the asylum for WWI nuts!! There are some really great guys on here!! A couple of the guys here have the new GP DR1. You might ask one of them but I think the DR1 requires a little beefing up of the motor mount. Just ask and these guys will give you the information needed. Nothing looks better than a biplane or a triplane in the air!! Steve.

I'm going to have to take some time to reduce the file sizes of some of the pictures I took at our club's annual show this year. Especially the 13' span Hanover CL-12 one of our members scratch built. A picture of it made one of this year's Model Aviation. Been flying two or three years now. Gas, not glow or elec. A two seater biplane with a biplane stab. Slow and impressive in flight.

Well, I did threaten to resize these pictures and post them so here they are. Sorry, some of these planes are not WW1, but this was at our club's annual show, which was a bit smaller than usual since we had to use the rain date. At least I'm not showinig the Turbine powered Eurofighter.

I don't think I ever spent more than maybe $300.00 complete for any kind of model. If you want to talk about an expensive form of flying, I just got off a site showing RTF models for ff competition Coupe de Hiver models. Only requirements are 10 grams of rubber and a minimum 70 grams airframe weight without rubber. This apparently VERY high tech model showed a list price of something like $1685.00 direct from the mfg. Rubber motor not included.

That's nuts!!! I can get a rubber powered plane for $1.29!!! Steve.

Okay boys I'm going crazy not having my camera working!!! I put the bottom two wings on the little tripe. I painted my wrightbros machine guns flat black and then weathered them with flat aluminum drybrushing. I painted the Voss face on the cowl. Put the landing gear together and put the cones on the wheels. I have it all mocked up right now and my boys love it!! They keep telling me how great it looks!!! Guess I'm doing something right!! What are you guys working on. Steve.

Guys, I'm working on my pattern plane tonight. Can't seem to get the motor mounted correctly. :mad: I must'a spent 2 hours on it so far. Anyway.... I'm getting ready to start cutting out 3 kits for my N11 project. One for Murph, one for Steve and one for me! :D Also need to find time to have the plans copied. Anyone else interested? The plans are Peter Rakes, 400 sized N11. Later this winter I will be back on my 72"DVIII build. That build should be interesting and probably expensive too! But what the heck.... it's only money!! :D:D Martin
