Try this
 

Steve, I saw a club member do this once to help level the field and get rid of things that were protruding from the ground. Take a piece of chain link fence, put some weight on it (bricks, cinder blocks) and drag it behind a riding tractor. Anything such as rocks, grass stubs, etc, sticking up is removed. Also levels the ground and rakes it at the same time. Martin (aka The KING)

I think one of the things I would love to do most, is check out the WWI hangars. From a few pictures I have seen, it appears they have done a nice job recreating the feel of a WWI Aerodrome.

Hello Steve, that Moraine-Saulnier Type 'N". would be a great subject. Just in case you didn't know it was that plane where the first syncronized machine gun actually shot through the propeller making the pilot alot more acurate shooting straight ahead, with out shooting half his propeller off.A significant advance and advantage if you could keep the plane in the air. I believe this aircraft had a knome engine like the sopwith where the pilot had to shut the ignition on & off,no throttle and it used wing warping to bank and turn.If the enemy didn't kill you, the plane certainly would. Most pilots in ww1 died in training . Flight training consisted of ground instruction about the controls, and learn the rest on your own in the air....ouch. I actually have one of these planes, in a 1:72 scale copy in plastic(Old Airfix model) hanging from my ceiling.I thought it might make a great scale subject one day.

I saw a new Fokker DR1 arf on www.powerlinehobbies.com that already has the motor, ESC, and servos installed. If the picture is correct you can either get it in red or black!! Steve

Check that again. If it is anything like the Camel above it, it says it is either electric or glow. Which would suggest to me, that there is no motor.

If there was, I would have to add it to my list...


***I took my own advice, and went back. The box does say that the brushless is installed, or at least leads you to believe it...

I'm pretty sure that you could get the Camel with a brushless outrunner. I wasn't able to expand the image so I couldn't get the details. Looks pretty cool.

The Fokker DR1, Camel, and Neiuport 17 all have brushless outrunners installed. They're a little pricey but you get everything but the RX and battery!!! The Camel even has factory installed flying wires!! Plus they look ALOT better than the Cedar Hobbies planes!!!Steve

It is very tempting. I found a sort of build thread on this recently. If I remember correctly, they ended up taking the stock motor out because it was too small, and mounted incorrectly.

Gee, you mean with the advantage of electric, there are still Northerners who don't fly all year round? Shocking. My addition of e-flight has made it much easier to achieve almost 17 years on the AMA all-weather program, and I have never counted my indoor FF and e-heli flying.

Started Jan 1990, haven't missed a month since, and that includes a month of March on the ice at Lake Harvanan in Northern Sweden (about 30 klicks from the Arctic Circle) and a nice pleasant February 1991 on the UP.

You have to ask? If I had a place as big as Lakehurst for indoor flying I'd be there!! It's probably my wife's worst nightmare that I would find somewhere that would allow me to fly everyday!!! Steve.

You are the man degreen60!!! I fly in the snow sometimes too! I know my lipolys won't last as long in the cold but flying is flying!! Steve.

There aren't any practical battery technologies that don't loose capacity in hot or cold weather. A couple that I've heard of, like molten Sulfur, and liquid Sodium, you wouldn't want to be anywhere near, let alonebe able to get into any reasonable sized model.

How are all you guys doing? I am going to work on the little tripe again today. Still sorry for no pics but the wife says if I bug her one more time about the camera she'll kill me!!! Hope to have pics soon so you guys can have some comedy relief at my expense. Actually it looks OKAY just not perfect. We had a new guy join the RC club the other night. He owns an earthmoving company and volunteered his equipment to build a runway. Sometimes you just get lucky!! The AMA charter papers are sent off so we're close to having a real club. The slimer guys are already giving me fits though about flying electrics. Guess I should've kept one of my glow engines!! Steve.

Have someone make a recording of a glow engine running, then when you get to the line to fly spend about 15 min flipping the prop like you are having a hard time starting the engine. When you get ready to take off turn on the recording as loud as you can. Now ask the slimer guys if this makes them happy.

Hey Steve, between me and Murph we can hook you up with lotta's slimer engines so that you will be the envy of the whole club! :D Why I even have a RYOBI weed wacker motor with a big prop that has been converted for RC use! You could pretend you were "running the engine up" on the flight line and blow all those slimers to Kingdom come! Or maybe you can carve a fake glow engine and stick it on one of youe eletrics. :D:D What do you think Chris? :confused: Martin

Hey Martin, how hard could it be to build a large rubber plane? It should be easier than building with balsa, and when you crash the plane will just bounce right? I thought I had an old OS .46 tucked away but I guess I got rid of it. Steve.

I think I have (3) .40 size engines, (1) .60 size engine, and (1) .70 size 4-stroke not in use right now.

I did see a DR1 designed around that .70 4-stroke engine.:) someday :)

Martin-- Sorry I didn't answer sooner. I'd love to get together. I'm usually pretty pressed for free time though as I'm starting a new business and working full time at another while permits, licenses, architect, construction, etc. gets finished. Add to that normal family committments and it's dark before I have any fun time. When I do get to fly it's in the school yard behind my house. Two battery packs and back home. Maybe I can break away one weekend for a few hours. I'm not AMA so I may not be welcome at your field though. I'm considering joining AMA just so I can fly a new model when completed at NEAT, Rhinebeck and maybe the Dawn Patrol Rondevous in Dayton (2009). I bought a Dynaflite S.E.5a 1/5 kit.

I really appreciate it guys but money is a little tight right now. Maybe later on. We're having trouble getting our insurance to pay anything on Colt's broken arm. Gonna have to wait and see what happens there. I don't get it!! We pay all that money for insurance and then when we need it they try to come up with reasons not to pay. It'll be all right though!!
