Fedex dropped off my Dx6i today. What a surprise because I didnt expect it till next week. You can also imagine my surprise when I opened up the box and inside was a brand new AR6100 RX!! I must say it was well worth not having the radio for 11 days to get a free RX outta the deal for a minor inconvienence. guess I have to go buy another plane now..... I haven't even maidened this one yet......
WBPU'ed with a couple coats, sanded and painted. Got annoyed with the airbrush, so I just sprayed it with white rattle can. I now see why people say to build an airplane. You do learn alot. I learned a new way to make hinges.
Step 1. dont get enough WBPU along the hinge line
Step 2. Spray with rattle can paint
Step 3. Foam melts together nicely........
Sorry its taken so long for pics... way too long, so here she is before the maiden. Done up in some Pittsburgh black and gold. The plane was painted white, then the black parts and I used yellow electrical tape for the stripes.
The maiden went well. I have flown it alot since then. I have changed to a 10x5 prop from the 9x6 that it came with.
It has been crashed ALOT. Here is what I have done to it and yet its still flyable:
-cracked the wing right infront of the aileron on both wings
-had the wing split in two at another point
-broke the motor mount and firewall
-turned the fuselage where the windows are into an accordian
-tore off the gear
-broken off most control surfaces. CA hinges have been replaced with tape hinges(I like em)
-3 broken props till I got a prop saver. Now only 1 since
-1 bent prop shaft. Prop saver stopped that from happening again
-fuse cracked in half right behind the battery door.
-engine cowling is destroyed.
She is a masterpiece of gorilla glue, CA, packing tape and epoxy now.
Most all of this has happened because of a lack of altitude and my inexperience doing aerobatics too close to the ground. I have also had a couple mishaps: prop saver coming loose, rog takeoff into a curb, inadvertant stall during landing.

Here is the next project for this one. I figure she's a learnin machine so why not!
Thats it for now. I am going to the LHS tomorrow to buy a new airplane that I can attempt to not destroy now that I got my feet pretty wet with whats left of my E-Starter.
Hi Sir Raleigh ,Iron City and others, I have just bought myself a E Starter slope glider and am waiting for delivery. It's interesting reading about the builds and it's giving me some ideas as to what power system to go for. I have read elsewhere that the dihedral is very large and actually causes the plane to not fly as well as it could. Do you think that this is so and did you make any changes to the dihedral. Admittedly this was on a thread that was 4 or 5 years old so maybe GWS have already made the change on there kits. I know they do respond to what is said on the forums......eventually. LOL. IronCity, I can't seem to see any of your pics, there is just a note in small print saying that they are unavailable. Do you know if this is a temporary thing? Hopefully it is. I'll probably go for a BM2410-12 brushless with some 3S lipos. I don't think that a little extra weight will hurt to much and I like my planes on the slow side, the reflexes for fast parkflyers aren't what they were. I'll keep you all updated if you wish
I've not had any problems flying mine with the factory-set dihedral, but then I haven't done any aerobatics with it yet, either. I just like to fly it slow and easy.
I would like to know what others mean by "not fly as well as it could". I wonder what they are trying to get it to do...?
That motor seems like it will do just fine. I use a 2410-09 @ 840KV running a GWS EP9047 prop on mine and I like the way it flies.
My batteries are 3S, 1500mAh, 15C, Mysteries, bought from www.DealExtreme.com and seem to be very good for the easy way I fly. Not a bad price either considering shipping is free. Bought 3 of them. Put one in the fridge as a spare and rotate using the other 2. I take enough planes with me when I fly that I only use one battery per plane at the time.
Please do keep us posted as to your progress. We are always interested in what others are doing, especially with planes we are familiar with.
Also let us know if you decide to go with the stock 1 aileron servo or the 2 servo mod by NoFlyZone with the servos in the wing. I went with the 2 servo mod and don't regret it.
Sorry I haven't posted much the past few weeks but this is the busiest part of the year for me work wise, then there was the family holiday etc. My Estarter is coming along and I have been making quite a few modifications as I go. I have been following Fredericks Tricycle build here http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...1005801&page=8 for most of my mods but have also followed NoFlyzones aileron tutorial http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...630341&page=12 for the hinges. Have not gone with two servos though. I was lucky to get a hold of the same front steerable wheel assembly (1/2A) from Dubro that Fredericks uses (apparently no longer available) so that made life a little simpler. I have used CF rod down each side of the fuse, right across the wing and bamboo reo in the ailerons and the elevator. That seems to stiffen everything up nicely. I have also put FG on the winglets. That was the first time I have done FGing and it turned out, ok not brilliant, but it looks good. I have also discarded the battery lid and have made the compartment larger to be able to take a 3S 2200 Mah lipo if necessary. I am almost ready to start the finishing of process starting with some LW spackle. Sorry I don't have any pics of my build, Father Xmas didn't bring the camera I was hoping for. Have a mini keychain cam on the way though. I will get some pics with that,
I run a Suppo 2217/9 brushless on a 3s 2200mah lipo and the plane goes vertical forever and does inside loops, outside loops and anything else I tell it to. Theses are the best bang for buck plane out there in my opinion...

Here are some picsof my estarter painted. Its turned out to be a real porker at 26ounces but that does include a 2200Mah 3s lipo which does add a bit of weight. Haven't had a chance to maiden it yet but will be doing so soon.
Hi I could be wrong about that weight but there was a noticable increase in weight after painting. I used water based acrylic paint and gave it a couple of coats. The battery alone adds 6 oz. I think there also maybe a difference between US oz and Australian ozs? Anyhow it will make for an interesting maiden.
My mods include:
